Bike Week Battle-Baker Iron Horse Smoke-Down
Monday, March 11, 2013
The Baker Smoke-Down Showdown is always a stupid fun time. This year, the tire-shredding action will go down at Bike Week Wednesday night, 8 p.m., at the Iron Horse Saloon.
Two men in, one man out. No, it’s not a recreation of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
, it’s the annual Bike Week Baker Smoke-Down Showdown. Mad gearbox genius Bert Baker will once again host a friendly competition against some of his custom bike building friends who will square up in a burnout competition. It’s all about who can bang through the gears fastest and get that rear smokin’. In Sturgis last summer, it was one of the closest competitions we’ve witnessed, with Patrick “The Gorilla” Garvin of J&P Cycles
edging out Kevin “The Aussie” Alsop of Big Bear Choppers by a fraction.
This year’s Daytona Beach contest will go down at the Iron Horse Saloon Wednesday night with the first battles scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. The Iron Horse is located at N. US Highway 1 in Ormond Beach, Florida. Will Garvin defend his title, or will Alsop get redemption this year? Who knows, maybe a new champion is out there just waiting for an opportunity to show what they’ve got.
As Bert Baker would say, “It’s just good stupid fun.” See ya there!
