Kawasaki Teaser Vid Says New 'Z' Coming

Friday, September 20, 2013
OK, Kawasaki may have just broke wraps on the 2014 Ninja 1000 ABS, but it’s already teasing about a new “Z” model. Kawasaki gives everybody the smallest peek at its newest street bike in a YouTube video titled “Kawasaki – Call of the Wild.” On the “Z” side of things, we’ve already got a 2014 ZX-14R, 2014 Ninja ZX-10R, and 2014 Ninja ZX-6R. Will the next one be an updated version of its Z1000 streetfighter? We’ll find out November 5.

The 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ABS received KTRC Traction Control, dual power modes, more engine power thanks to revised intake cams and better binders according to Justin Dawes “First Look” article. Is the 2014 Z1000 due to receive the same treatment? Or will it even be a 1000? Maybe we’re getting the Z800 here in the States. What about a streetfighter with the ZX-14 R engine? Now that’s food for thought.

The only thing we could ascertain from the video is it’s got a fairly wide rear tire, chain final drive, left-side exhaust, and an angular front fairing. Pretty standard stuff. Until Nov. 5th, the rest is left to speculation.

This sure looks like a Z1000 to me. Exhaust on both sides, notch style chain adjustment, fork covers. There is one image of the rear tail that does not match a Z1000, or a Z800 though and that is interesting. But I think the teaser is just that, teasing a Z1000 but the announcement will be a new bike. And that bike will be a US Z800, primed to compete with Yamaha's new FZ-09/MT-09. The only other alternative like you said is a Z1000 updated with the latest Ninja 1000 tricks and bits.
