Why We Ride Teams with Quail Gathering

Why We Ride
, the newest motorcycle documentary featuring commentary from numerous industry heavyweights and compelling scenes from motorcycling bastions like Sturgis and Bonneville, is teaming up with one of our favorite events in 2014, The Quail Motorcycle Gathering
Why We Ride
is partnering with The Quail Motorcycle Ride for this year's event, establishing a new trophy category.
The partnership results in a new award for this year’s Quail Gathering
, the Why We Ride
trophy. It will be awarded to the “motorcycle that children 12 and under would most like to ride.” Additionally, the first 100 people to purchase an adult ticket will receive a complimentary copy of the Why We Ride
DVD. First come, first serve. Adult tickets are $75 while tickets for kids 12-and-under are $15. What would be really cool is if they scheduled a showing of the film the night of the dinner held after the Quail Motorcycle Ride so all participants could enjoy the “Feature Documentary Winner at the Motorcycle Film Festival 2013.”
The beauty of the Quail Motorcycle Ride and Gathering is that on the first day, many of the antique and collectible motorcycles that will be on display in the concours the following day are fired up and flogged on a 110-mile ride through scenic Carmel Valley, culminating in a couple parade laps on prestigious Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Many of the machines could be in museums but instead the owners use them for what they were originally intended for – to ride!
The next day, everybody gathers on the immaculate grounds of the Quail Golf Course for a wonderful day of camaraderie and showmanship. The lawns will be filled with incredible collections of collectible, antique, and often historically significant motorcycles. Special guests like Mert Lawill, Kenny Roberts and Wayne Rainey usually frequent the show, as does designer and motorcycling pioneer Craig Vetter. There’s music, great grub, and lots of stories to hear and swap with like-minded enthusiasts. And any reason to visit beautiful Carmel is good by us. This year the Quail Motorcycle Gathering will be held a little bit later in the month, May 17, 2014. Hope to see you there!
