Kickin' it Old Skool in Hard Times
Friday, July 10, 2009
In these times, it’s good to hear about somebody who’s weathering the storm well. A little while back I did a story on Henry Chriss and his start-up company,
Old Skool Cycle Werks. Chriss makes a cool conversion kit for Harley tourers, a one-piece, hand-laid fiberglass that drapes over the back wheel and gives a motorcycle a classy, streamlined look, the same style cars sported back in the day of fender skirts, running boards, and rumble seats.

Old Skool Cycle Werks PhatBack RT Conversion transforms the standard Harley-Davidson touring motorcycle into a custom-looking classic cruiser.
Last time I talked to Henry, he was shopping his original creation, the Phatback, at the
V-Twin Expo in Cincy. Since then, he’s created another variation of the Phatback with a pop-up rumble trunk integrated into the design called the PhatBack RT, and another version that has hard bags, too. It’s a cool concept, all do-it-yourself stuff. The bike converts back without too much hassle, and it opens up the rider’s triangle for taller riders looking for a little more leg room. It also provides a big canvas for some killer custom paint.
Here’s part of the e-mail I received from Old Skool Cycle Werks:
OSCW has grown, we’ve added new products and have contracts with several dealers. One of the dealers is Treasure Coast Harley-Davidson on the East Coast in Florida.
I’ve attached one pic of the bike they painted/customized with the PhatBack RT kit on it.
Glad to hear somebody is doing well. Here's to keepin' it Old Skool, Henry.
