Dirt Quake USA III Cometh
Thursday, May 22, 2014
Dirt Quake III Cometh!! There will be spills and thrills soon on Washington’s Castle Rock flat track as a group of misfits and miscreants race motorcycles there that weren’t made for the dirt track. Dirt Quake is the brainstorm of Sideburn magazine to “get novices racing their motorcycles, motorcycles that don’t fit into normal motorcycle sport, and at a minimum cost.”
It’s going to be quite the spectacle when everything from choppers to scooters battle it out on a Grand National Championship track. There’s four classes - Inappropriate Road Bike, Street Tracker/Street Scrambler, Chopper, Lady (female riders on any of the bikes above). There’s going to be a campout, live music, and a swap meet as well as racing at the weekend-long affair.
It starts Friday, May 30 with a pre-party at See See Motorcycles in Portland, starting at 7 and ending whenever. See See has teamed up with Sideburn to put on this year’s version of Dirt Quake. On Saturday, a group of pro flat track racers will take center stage to show all the novices how it’s really done. A swap meet sponsored by The Moto Attic will take place, and that’s the night everyone will be camping out and partying.
Sunday, June 1, it’s time to run what you brung. Tech inspection starts at 9 a.m., there will be a short practice session, then it’ll be time to get it on! Guaranteed good times, so bring a camera. Castle Rock is about 58 miles north of Portland, Oregon. Hope some of you can make it out.
