Mat Mladin out at Topeka?

Friday, July 31, 2009
Mat Mladin appears unstoppable in the new American Superbike class - Fontana American Superbike Race 2.
Mat Mladin voiced his frustration with the dangerous racing conditions at Topeka on Twitter and reportedly will not compete in this weekend's AMA Superbike races.
Mat Mladin, never one to mince words, had this to say about the racing conditions at the Topeka on his Twitter page.

“So Topeka today! 170mph turn 1 and you can hit the concrete with your shoulder, which leads to turn 2 head on into concrete which leads to turn 3 where a wall has removed and if you run off the track you go into a 10ft deep ditch. The track seem willing to do work but the wrong people are advising what to do and unfortunately I do not wish to die or be busted up waiting for that work to be done. Some riders are saying that the work will happen in stages. It’s the reason why some places we go now are still bad. Because riders wont stand up and be counted. Amazing how great they can ride a bike but be the most gutless people I have ever known. Spineless!”

With a 126-point lead in the AMA Superbike, Mladin can afford not to race. But it puts his Rockstar Makita Suzuki teammates in a precarious position. Do they follow suit and pull out of the race or use Mladin’s withdrawal to their advantage to make up some points? Do they pour more salt in the wounds of the DMG/AMA debacle or buck up and put on a show for the fans? Regardless, it leaves a big question mark about the state of American road racing for next year.

We’re keeping an eye out for an official statement from Suzuki and will post it up as soon as we know more.

Mat Mladin has been in the game for a long time and has had his share of injuries.
The major race tracks in Australia are fast and safe - because the riders have been very vocal and not afraid to stand up for themselves. It's their balls on the line - not some tight arse track owner or greedy promoter.
Wayne Garner, Mick Doohan, Troy Bayliss, Troy Corser, et al have all stood up for improving track safety wherever in the world that they have raced.
If takes embarrassing the series promoter or track owner by taking this stance to get the improvements - then more power to Mat and everyone that supports him!
We all want to see the best riders out there riding at the limit lap after lap then returing safely to the pits.

He can always come back to Australia and give the locals some stiff competition!

as usual Mat uses his Aussie charm to win people over. Mat "you get more ants with sugar than salt" I do wish the other racers stand up, the USA tracks really are poor & dangerous.

it seems that there was more than sufficient time to address the concerns Mladin has.....

As sad as it is...Mladin is right on this one. This is the series representing the United States, and they are skimping on a whole truck load of things....this series is a joke. If it were any other series (British SB, WSS, MotoGP), Mladin's concerns wouldn't even be questioned. Look what happens when Rossi has a concern...
