Bike Klub Gets Bilked
Friday, September 25, 2009

The Bike Klub was working hard on 'Phyliss' before it learned they were using a bunch of hot parts and had been bilked out of two-grand of their hard-earned money.
Did a story awhile back about Marc ‘Mazz’ Mazzerole and the
Bike Klub of Bernice MacNaughton High School. Mazz is a great guy that formed an after school club that gives ‘at-risk’ teens a positive place to hang out and learn the art of custom motorcycle building. One of the few programs of its kind around, the Bike Klub raises all its own money through fundraisers and the like and gets by with help from donations from manufacturers and custom builders. The bike they were working on when I talked to Mazz, the ‘Betty’ Bobber, won ‘Best Overall’ at the 2009 Donnie Smith Chopper Class Challenge.
This year the Bike Klub has been working on a new bike with a 1967 BSA 650 Lightning frame and intended to use an original twin-carb BSA A65L motor. The Klub had started piecing the bike together, getting as far as having a rolling chassis put together, when the news came. The motor and other BSA parts turned out to be stolen. The Klub is losing the parts and are out $2000 of their own money. Being an after school program, they don’t receive any dough from the school district, so it’s a big blow to the program.
But they’re a resilient bunch, and I know Mazz will do everything within his power to have their latest British-based build, ‘Phyliss’ done in time for the next Donnie Smith Chopper Class Challenge. Anybody out there got a restorable BSA 650cc Lightning motor sitting around? If so, here’s Mazz’s contact info. And it doesn’t have to necessarily be an old BSA engine, the Klub always welcomes all types of part donations, so if you can help out, Mazz’s info is below.
