There were no signs of a recession at Laconia Harley-Davidson based on the first half of Laconia Bike Week. America’s oldest motorcycle rally, now in its 86th year, typically draws more than 300,000 people to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we set new records,” said Anne Deli, Owner of Laconia Harley-Davidson. “Crowds are very strong here at the dealership. We estimate tens of thousands of people came through our doors in the first couple days. So far this week we’ve seen bikers from 29 states, 6 Canadian provinces, and 6 other foreign countries.”

The crowds came with open wallets for things they care about. “We worked hard to get the best vendors of gear-head products for the Motorcycle Mecca we have created here for Bike Week. Our greatly expanded group of vendors tells us that their sales are way up,” explained Deli. “This is our first Bike Week owning Laconia Harley-Davidson, and our sales have raced past what we thought were aggressive plans. We ring a bell celebrating each motorcycle purchase; and we have lots bells ringing! Our trucks are out picking up more Harley’s from dealers up to 800 miles away to keep our floor stocked with the hottest selling models.”

“Despite whatever happens in the economy, motorcycle enthusiasts, especially Harley riders, will find a way to afford pursing their passion,” added Deli. “It’s more than a hobby; it’s a total lifestyle that offers an escape from life’s cares, both on the road and with friends at dealerships and rallies.”

Laconia Bike Week heads into its final weekend of activities. To learn more about Laconia Harley-Davidson and Laconia Bike Week please visit www.laconiaharley.com.

jimbo - harleys and foreclosures  July 15, 2009 10:59 PM
Foreclosures are going to hurt Harley sales further along with bike weeks. Is it food on the table, shelter and a vehicle to carry the kids and large items in or the Harley? The economy is going to continue to get worse.

When I was up there, there weren't as many vendors in the tent area. There was no traffic to mention. You need to take off the rose colored glasses and look at what really went on.
Kid thunder - No way!!  June 21, 2009 09:34 PM
I've been going to bike week since 1980 & no way was this a banner year!! Even though the rain made things slow there were other years that there was more rain & colder temps & much more people! On Friday nite my son & I came right down RT3 to Weirs with almost no traffic. I parked in a lot on RT3 but when we went down the beach theree were plenty of palces to park!!!
Tessier - Ya right!  June 19, 2009 12:31 PM
I work in Meredith right up the street from Laconia where all the bike week action is and I can say that there is no way that we are seeing the same volume of traffic as a typical year. Its been raining for most of June and we have only had one full day of no rain so far so I for one am not buying this bike week report.
