Jesse James' Metal Church Teaches Fab Basics

Thursday, January 07, 2010
Want to get a few handy tips on metal fabrication for free from a man who has made a name for himself through his metal working skills? Then be sure to check out Jesse James’ Metal Church. The popular leader of West Coast Choppers demonstrates that behind the TV persona is a guy who still knows how to bend and shape metal and build custom motorcycles with the best of them. Jesse gets back to his roots as he shares his skills and introduces viewers to some of the fabricators whose work he admires.

Jesse James Metal Church #1 runs you through the how-to’s of making a custom gas tank. Jesse favors a Frisco-style tank that’s small and mounted high on the backbone. Jesse runs down what tools are needed then begins the process, from creating a template and forming a pattern to cutting out the initial top piece of the tank. He gets ready to start forming the 18 gauge cold rolled steel when Episode #1 cuts off, cliffhanger-style.

No glitz and Hollywood glam here, just the basics – a man, his hands, his tools and machines of the trade. Learn basic metal working from the pros for free. Look for new episodes every month on the West Coast Choppers website. Thanks for the tutorial, Jesse.

First of all kudos on the name Metal Church. This is a great video for those starting out for sure. Very detailed and I like the no-glam approach. Where is video #2?

If I only knew how beautiful metal could look after the masters touch, I would have paid more attention in high school metalwork classes!
