A Custom Builders Love for his Daughter
Tuesday, January 19, 2010

CJ rides off into the South Dakota sunset as he rumbles out of the Buffalo Chip Campground in Sturgis. Not only is the man a talented custom bike builder, he's also a big-hearted father.
Read this on the
Guilty Customs' blog a while back and thought it worthy of sharing. Being the father of a beautiful young girl myself, I can relate to CJ’s sentiments. CJ and I have developed a friendship over the last three years. He was cool enough to give me
an interview when I was just breaking into the biz and know he’s a guy who bends over backwards to help people. The story confirms my impressions of the man.
The story starts off with CJ talking about how it’s easy to get caught up in the ‘routine’ and how the daily toil can often become mundane. The ‘magic’ of seeing a build go from concept to finish is still rewarding, but you get a good sense of CJ’s newfound excitement when reading about his upcoming project. The talented leader of
Guilty Customs is working on a motorcycle for his daughter, Lindsay. He’s going to take readers along for the ride as the build takes shape, documenting it in his Push’n’Pavement blog. IronWorks is also planning on running the story in a multi-part series. The bike will be based on one of Guilty’s popular designs, the ‘1/2 Pint.’
Here’s an excerpt about building a bike for his daughter from the Guilty Blog entitled ‘Dad’s love for a daughter.’

Guilty Customs' 'Lucille.'
“Of course as you can imagine with any child, there is always the possibility of ‘enthusiastic’ (aka heated) creative discussions and disagreements; however one thing we both agree on….it will be cool riding together as dad and daughter on our bikes around town. My daughter, Lindsay, has even agreed to attending various events/shows with Guilty over the next year so people can meet her and see her new ride. We’re equally excited that the magazine (IronWorks) has agreed to do a story on this build as it hits on a subject close to our heart, which is building fun bikes for people to enjoy and doing something for people we love.”
As motorcyclists, we put on tough fronts and adhere to certain decrees, but when it comes to family, most of us are big softies. Blood is thicker than water. So good luck to CJ and Lindsay on the upcoming project and kudos to CJ for being a stand-up dad. I know how much my eight-year-old daughter loves to ride with me, and I’m sure that’s how CJ and Lindsay started out, too.
