Just found out that one of my favorite custom motorcycle shows is teaming up with my favorite place to hang in Sturgis. The Legendary Buffalo Chip is going to host the World Famous Rat’s Hole Custom Bike Show this year on the 70th anniversary of  Sturgis Rally Week.

The Rat’s Hole custom bike show was founded 38 years ago in Daytona Beach by Big Daddy Rat, Karl Smith. The first event was held in the A&P parking lot just off Main Street during the annual Run to the Sun bike week. Over the years it has developed a reputation as one of the most prestigious bike shows around. And even though Karl Smith is no longer with us, his son Ted has taken up the family torch and still produces a top-notch show. Rat’s Hole’s reputation is world-renowned. Smith even flew the three winners of Italy’s Padua Bike Expo to Daytona Beach this year to compete against their American counterparts. The skill-level of the custom builders who attend the show is unparalleled.

“We’re ecstatic to have the Rat’s Hole Chopper Show here at the Chip this year,” explains Legendary Buffalo Chip owner, Rod Woodruff. “It’s a great motorcycle industry tradition that we’re proud to host and be associated with.”

The Legendary Buffalo Chip will be a perfect match for the Rat’s Hole show. I just posted a press release with the list of activities and concerts planned for the Chip this year and it’s going to be crazy off-the-hook fun. Having the Rat’s Hole show just sweetens the pot.

The Rat’s Hole Sturgis show is scheduled for Thursday, August 12 and will feature 24 classes as well as a ‘Best of Show’ award. It also recently expanded the list to include two new classes for Metric Cruisers and Sport Bikes. This year’s Best of Show winner will receive their award on the Legendary Buffalo Chip’s main stage before Thursday night’s featured performer, Jason Aldean takes the stage.
