Victory Moving Engine Production to Spirit Lake

Friday, May 21, 2010
Power numbers for the Freedom 106 06 V-Twin are a claimed 92-hp and 109 lb-ft of torque in the 2500 to 3000 rpm range to go along with a 9.4:1 compression ratio.
In response to concerns expressed over the closure of Polaris' Osceola, Wisconsin plant, where Victory's Freedom 106 engine was assembled, the American motorcycle manufacturer states that the engines will now be assembled at its Spirit Lake, Iowa facility and that all of its manufacturing and assembly will now be in one location.
Victory Motorcycles states that the assembly of its Freedom V-Twin engine, formerly a function of its Osceola, Wisconsin facility, will now be done at its Spirit Lake, Iowa plant. This comes on the heels of yesterday's surprise announcement by Polaris Industries that it is realigning manufacturing operations, a plan that includes the sale or closure of the Osceola, Wisconsin operations and the opening of a new plant in the Monterrey, Mexico region.

Moving engine assembly to Spirit Lake will allow Victory to have all of its manufacturing and assembly in one single location. Victory bills itself as ‘the new American motorcycle’ and wants to emphasize that it is still an American-made motorcycle. The company is planning investments in the Spirit Lake plant in order to make it the Victory Motorcycles Center of Excellence.

Polaris claims that the move to the Monterrey region of Mexico will bring it closer to its large and growing Southern US customer base. Polaris stated in a morning conference call that ATV and side-by-side vehicle sales account for almost two-thirds of its sales and that its biggest market is in those Southern states. It will also allow them to better serve the burgeoning markets in Latin and South America.

Polaris Industries weighed in the concerns of moving some of its production out of the country but believes that its brand identity will survive as long as they continue to deliver the quality and performance that their customers expect.

Come on.......every bike out there has some pieces and parts made outside of the country. No one can lay claim to being 100% American made. Can Victory say it's 100% assembled in the USA, yep they can. I'm a Victory owner and always will be.
Jon -Look at it this way  May 31, 2010 02:44 AM
The company moved to Mexico, right? So even though they claim Victory will still be made in the US, Polaris is now a Mexican company. The Goldwing is made in Ohio. So is the Goldwing an American Motorcycle? Screw Polaris. I hope it backfires.

OK, Polaris is moving one production plant to Mexico to make ATV's and side by sides. The bikes will still be made in Iowa and are still American. Those of you who criticize polaris but still support Harley are hypocrites. HD didn't even have the decency to sell Beuell and keep those bikes in production. I don't agree with moving production to another country and losing those jobs, but why don't you get off your ass and get rid of the politicians that are crippling our country and allowing these trade imbalances and production moves. The country has a lot of problems...we should not add to them by black balling companies who still keep Americans in work.
GB -the whole story  May 25, 2010 06:15 AM
polaris building a plant in mexico for atv's not motorcycles. you people need to get the whole story straight.
Who? -Don't let the facts ruin your post Jim  May 22, 2010 01:34 PM
The Osceola plant doesn't have 1000 employees, maybe half that. Don't let that ruin you rant though, you're on a roll!

Laying off one thousand American workers to be replaced by cheap mexican labor says it all. Screw polaris.

Baadawg -Did you read the article, Mr. Undecided?  May 21, 2010 05:06 PM
It states that motorcycles will be made in one location in Spirit Lake, IA. Last I checked, Iowa was still in the USA.

If it's cheaper to make bikes in Mexico then say 'its just cheaper to make bikes in Mexico'. I think I will buy Harley. They are not 100% American either but Polaris dissapointed me.
Nick -Hooray  May 21, 2010 03:59 PM
Hooray for Beectory y para Polaris tambien. Everybody knows that the Mexican market for large, expensive bikes y especialmente para los snowmobiles is expanding rapidly.
