New Season of Full Throttle Saloon Airs Nov.17

Tuesday, November 9, 2010
Walking into Sturgis Full Throttle Saloon has the feel of entering Mad Maxs Thunderdome. Check out how the hail knocked out all of the signs lights.
Fans of the Full Throttle Saloon, get ready as Michael Ballard, Angie and the gang are back for Season II which airs next Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 10 p.m. (EST)

It’s time once again for the circus sideshow known as the Full Throttle Saloon. This summer, truTV cameras were rolling as they followed the adventures of bar owner and motorcycle industry figurehead Michael Ballard around his establishment, the “World’s Largest Biker Bar” in Sturgis aka the Full Throttle Saloon. With a cast of characters that includes Jackyl frontman Jesse James Dupree, Angie and the lovely girls of Flaunt, Goat and Fajita Mike, the second season of the popular truTV program is sure to include more outrageous outtakes from one of the most happening party places in Sturgis, South Dakota, home to the biggest, baddest biker rally around.

The Full Throttle Saloon Season II premiere airs Wednesday, November 17 at 10 p.m. (EST) on truTV. The official preview states “This season, the crowds are bigger, the women are wilder and the stakes couldn’t be higher.”

For those unfamiliar with the Full Throttle Saloon, it is an indoor/outdoor bar with post-apocalyptic décor including a full-sized yellow school bus pointing unnaturally toward the sky, big rigs suspended in the air for deejay and lighting booths and the steel arches of a full-sized bridge. Every time I walk through its doors, the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome comes to mind. There are several stages for entertainment, a burn-out pit, tattoo parlor, a wrestling ring, zip lines, and even a giant cannon for the carnival favorite human cannonball trick. If it sounds like a freak show, it is, because Michael hires sideshow acts to entertain the crowd. There’s even a troupe of little people wrestlers who throw down in the ring during the day and pull double duty as bartenders and entertainers at night.

The Pyro girls lit up the Full Throttle Saloon - literally.
You never know what you'll see at the freak show that is the Full Throttle Saloon.
The show is always full of conflict. Michael’s constantly under pressure of trying to pull in a year’s worth of receipts in two weeks because the bar is only open during the Sturgis Rally. Things are always going wrong, like the furious hail storm that rocked the saloon last year that cost him in both property damage and sales. Then there’s the standard complications of running a bar where thousands of bikers come to cut loose and the ensuing conflicts created when alcohol and testosterone collide. Competition from other bars was also fiercer than ever this past year.

Michael’s girlfriend Angie, who he jokingly refers to the “Mouth of the South,” and Dupree, who is a franchising partner and the FTS Entertainment Director, help Ballard keep the ship on course over the tumultuous two weeks. But there’s so much chaos and pressure in that short time frame that it

creates conflict even amongst his closest allies.

Michael and Angie are currently on the road hitting the rally scene and accompanying the East Coast swing of the Easyriders Bike Show tour, working hard to promote the show and bar. We talked to them at theLone Star Rally where Michael said fans can come check them out next in Louisville this weekend at the Easyriders show in Kentucky. At the Lone Star Rally, FTS merchandise was flying off the table, fans were clamoring for autographs and pictures and from what I witnessed the Full Throttle Saloon is more popular than ever.

The truTV series debuted in November last year and averaged 1.4 million viewers. The show has been an unexpected hit and Full Throttle Saloon’s season finale posted a series-high 1.7 million viewers when it aired on December 15.

i believe they need to get rid of Jesse James on the show. I think by his attitude towards Angie, that he is just jealous that he isn't getting a piece of that sweet thing.

I must admit to some confusion during tonight's season "premiere" of FTS. Is it deja-vu or am I having alien interference? I could swear the FTS premiere is an 80% re-edited, 20% new material picked from last year. OR is it the repetitive theme of dumb ideas, dramatic arguments, much too fast T&A jiggles, alcoholism and general debauchery? In any case, I want to gas up the Vespa and book up there for the real show!

Primus, apparently you don't ride a Harley or some other cruiser. Neither do I.
