Santa Arrives on Harley at Cook's Corner
Monday, December 13, 2010
Christmas came early to Cook's Corner when Santa stopped by on the back of a Harley Saturday and delivered presents to about 100 lucky girls and boys. The crew at Cook's Corner sold raffle tickets for a month to raise money for the kid's presents.
It was Saturday afternoon and the crowd at Cook’s Corner, a popular biker hangout in Southern California, was bigger than normal. As we turned up Live Oak Canyon Road headed toward Trabuco Canyon to shoot photos for ourStar Stryker
Rocker C comparo, we noticed a line of motorcycles stretching far up the hill. I’ve seen Cook’s crowded before, but it was pretty early in the day for hundreds to be hitting the bar. Closer inspection revealed lots of little heads in the crowd. Turns out Cook’s Corner was in the midst of its 4th Annual Christmas in the Canyons as the popular biker haunt hosted a party as its way to give back to the community.
Before long, Santa came riding in on the back of a gold and black Harley-Davidson, much to the delight of the approximately 100 children on hand. It didn’t take long for a line to form as munchkins anxiously waited for their chance to tell Ol’ Saint Nick their Christmas wishes. They soon were rewarded by footballs and board games, dolls and stuffed animals courtesy of the Cook’s Corner staff who sold raffle tickets for a month in order to purchase toys for the kids. A Christmas tree decorated with candy canes helped set a festive mood.
In all, almost 300 people showed up for Cook’s Corners Christmas in the Canyons celebration. A turkey dinner with all the trimmings was served for hungry revelers. Vendors hawked standard biker fare along with seasonal treats like miniature Santas riding motorcycles. With many in the crowd feeling the pinch of tight budgets, the crew at Cook’s Corner put smiles on many faces Saturday.
