IMBBA US Custom Builders
Here's a peek at the talented field of custom bike builders who will represent the US in the IMBBA World Cup.
The International Master Bike Builder Association’s (IMBBA) USA Country Director, Freddie Arnold, recently announced the names of the custom motorcycle builders who will be representing the United States in theIMBBA World Cup Competition. The event will pit the talents of custom builders from around the world who will compete for over $30,000 in cash and prizes. The competition will be held on April 20-23, 2012 in Laval, Canada.

The American contingency consists of Sam Baldi of Cherry Valley, California; John Shopes of Sinister Industries out of Phoenix, Arizona; Aaron Glenn of Glenn Dyne Design out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Wikked Steel’s Steve Galvin of St. Petersburg, Florida; Dave Dupor of D&D Customs from Lake Villa,Illinois and Ballistic Cycles Tim and Mike McNamer from Bluemounds, Wisconsin. These builders have been consistent in winning points for showing their bikes nationwide. Representing the USA will be their biggest challenge to date, competing against the international building prowess at the World Cup Competition.

Canada, the defending and host country, has earned the most points for showing in 2009-2010 IMBBA. Canadian Director and Master Bike Builder Bob McKay recently announced the builders who have accepted the challenge to compete and represent their country.

Again, this competition is a first in the motorcycle industry where countries qualify who they want to represent them in a worldwide competition. Along with the US and Canada, Italy, Germany, France, Australia, Ireland, UAE, Brazil, Hungary, Saudi Arabia and Turkey have also qualified to participate. Each country can have up to six builders representing their country.

After judging is completed at the competition in 2012, “The IMBBA will stage the next World Cup Competition in 2014 in that winning country,” said IMBBA President, Jeff Starke.

Promoting the event is Pascal Richards, who is graciously providing the venue. At the time of this publication, builders will have just 390 days to build their best work. The event, scheduled for April 20-23, 2012, will take place during the Tattoo and Bike Expo in Laval, Ontario, Canada just outside Montreal. IMBBA International will use a certified IMBBA judge from each participating country to judge the show using the IMBBA points system.

Bikes Built in Secrecy
Builders that want to participate must go through their country’s representative to be qualified to participate. In addition, they must agree to build a never-before-seen motorcycle of any style. It cannot be shown, photographed, or seen in public prior to the event in April 2012.

Spectators, the media, and the entire world will have a rare opportunity to see these works of art for the first time ever when they are revealed at the show. The builders will also have the rare opportunity to have their work receive global exposure. Press from around the world will be invited, all expenses paid by IMBBA and their sponsors. Many sponsors have already come forward donating parts and prizes, with $30,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs. Among them are: ACCEL Motorcycle Products, Rolling Thunder, S&S Cycle, Maximum Motorcycle, Denver’s Choppers, Wimmer Machine, Belt Drive Betty, Chopper Institute of America, B’Cool Products.

In addition, a very cool special custom-built McGrath Billet Aluminum Electric Guitar engraved with World Cup Competition and the IMBBA Logo, valued over $3000 by Bill McGrath himself, will be given away.
