I purchased my 2006 Royal Star Tour Deluxe Midnight edtion in Feb 2007. This is my third bike and my first to buy brand new. I also have a 1978 750 Hondamatic and I had a Honda Rebel.
I was looking for a bike that I could cruise around town on and still take long distance trips with it. It has the same motor and frame as the Venture so it is great for the touring and it looks like a cruiser. I can change the look by taking off the quick disconnect windshield or sissy bar. This bike does it all.
There are also plenty of both Yamaha and aftermarket parts out there for this bike. I plan on getting the Quadzilla system for mine. It is a H-D styled fairing with 4 speakers and radio that mounts to the windshield's quick disconnect system.
I now have almost 10,000 miles on my bike and that includes 2 trips to Indianapolis, IN. The bike handles well on city streets, open highways, and in the mountains. I have kept it serviced regularly and have had no problems out of it.
I will say that I wish the seat was a little deeper like on the Venture for long rides. Mustang makes a seat that sits deeper to give you more lower back support and it comes with a back rest.
Also this bike does NOT have hazard lights on it like most other touring bikes. This would have been a very helpful feature when on the side of the road/interstate day or night in the rain putting on rain gear. I have yet to find a way to fix this problem.
