2009 Icon Tarmac Ventilated Boots
The 2009 Icon Tarmac Ventilated Boots are lightweight, comfy and the mesh is breathable, a bonus with summer right around the corner.
you’re like me, you don’t want to have to swap out your boots at a rally when you’re going to be walking for miles. The Tarmac Ventilated Boots remedy that problem. Icon makes versatile gear that looks sharp whether you’re riding a motorcycle or heading out on the Vegas Strip. Icon’s newest street riding kicks are a combination of stepping-out good looks blended with rugged functionality.

Icon’s Tarmac Ventilated Boots are comfortable enough to wear around all day. I pounded miles of New Orleans’ pavement with them, both riding and walking. The thick sole is a little stiff but breaks in quick and provides solid grip on the foot controls and on street surfaces. The inner padding offers enough cushion without being overly bulky. Two Velcro straps help cinch them on firmly and means they’re easy off, easy on, a feature I appreciated while wearing them through an airport. There’re no laces dangling to get caught in chains or belts, either.

The Tarmacs are styled similar to a hiking boot. Construction is a combination of leather and nylon panels - leather in the toe and heel, where you need it the most, and mesh in between to keep your feet cool. The boots also have hard

plastic reinforcements in the big toe area where foot controls can quickly wear leather thin. Of course, I love the Rocpro mesh’s breathability, but I didn’t enjoy my feet getting drenched in a downpour on the Gulf Coast when it soaked right through the mesh.

The sole is thick and styled like a good athletic shoe. It is reinforced by a full-length axial metric steel shank. Heel, toe, and ankle plates made of hard plastic provide another layer of protection against road rash. The shoe looks heavy-duty but is lightweight and comfy and is a welcome addition to my gear bag. The Tarmac’s are standard shoe size, as I wear a 10.5 in both. They’ve accompanied me on a soggy ride along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and weathered the storm that is Bike Week without a loose stitch in sight. And at only $125, I’m thinking about grabbing a set in white to go along with my black pair.
