Bell Moto-9 Helmet Peek

The Bell Moto-9 Helmet features an entirely new design for improved fit, comfort and most importantly, safety and was engineered with the help of AMA Supercross racer James Stewart.
Bell Helmets recently introduced the successor to its popular Moto-8 motocross and off-road motorcycle riding helmet with the new Bell Moto-9 Helmet (available at Motorcycle-Superstore.com). The dirt bike helmet features an entirely new design for improved fit, comfort and most importantly, safety and was engineered with the help of AMA Supercross racer James Stewart.

The exterior shell is fabricated from a combination of Kevlar, carbon fiber and fiberglass materials termed a TriMatrix Composite Shell. This helps reduce the weight without sacrificing strength. In excess of eight forward intake vents channel air through the inner EPS liner and out the back keeping the rider more comfortable while in motion. The angle of the visor can be adjusted via two flip-tab screws.

Inside, the cheek pads feel thicker and now feature a simple and clever magnetic attachment system instead of conventional plastic buttons. This was designed to assist medical personal to more easily remove the rider’s helmet without causing more head or neck trauma in an emergency. It also makes it that much more simple for cleaning purposes. Conversely, the main liner still is secured via plastic buttons. The cheek pads and inner liner are made from a special anti-bacterial and moisture wicking material which reduces odor and rider discomfort in between motos.

There is also a neat removable pocket inset within the EPS liner that is compatible with the Shock Doctor Eject Helmet Removal System. A fabric strap with conventional D-ring is used to secure the helmet to the rider’s head and a magnet keeps the strap from flopping around while riding. Furthermore, padded strip covers can be removed for washing.

Initial impressions are positive. The helmet feels light and only weighs 3.44 pounds. Sizing is comparable to other premium helmets and seems to fit more securely than before. There is added space in the chin bar area. The eye port is large and works well with EKS Brand goggles as tested in the EKS Brand Goggle Review. Look for an in-depth review as we accumulate some ride time with Bell’s latest off-road lid.
