KTM 450 SX
The KTM 450 SX-F is the Austrian company’s most advanced motocross bike. The 450 SX is the only MX dirt bike from the Big Five which utilizes electric start. This advantage for the KTM 450 SX-F is only possible because the MX bike is still able to be lightweight.
KTM made sure it's Thumper felt small by squeezing the 449cc powerplant into the 250SX chassis.
KTM is known for its unique form of suspension. White Power makes the fork and shock. The WP shock does not use linkage and attaches directly to the swingarm. The 450 SX-F is known for its strong DOHC engine and amazing wave rotor brakes. It’s also the only major brand which still uses a four-speed transmission.
Stefan Everts works with the Factory KTM team in Europe where he tests and trains on the KTM 450. The Austrian OEM is far more popular over there than it is in America. The KTM 450 SXF hasn’t had the same levels of professional motocross and supercross success in the U.S. as the Japanese brands, but the orange company dominates the off-road enduro market. Bigger models such as the 505 and 530 KTM dirt bikes share some components with the 450 SX-F and a 400 does as well.
With the 450 MX class and MX1 GP motocross racing being the most prominent form of MX racing, the KTM 450 SX-F is at the forefront of KTM motorcycle development. Much of the technology from the 450 will get passed on to other KTM dirt bikes.
