Rockstar Makita Yoshimura Suzuki s Ben Spies leads the pack into Turn 8 at Road America.
Mat Mladin (6) picked-up his fifth win in as many tries during Superbike Race 1 at Virginia International Raceway.
Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Mat Mladin put in a spectacular performance Saturday at Virginia International Raceway, winning the 28-lap Race 1 by a margin of over 8 seconds over teammate Ben Spies. Today's victory marked the fifth consecutive win for the six-time Superbike champ.

"I know Ben likes to get the lead and put his head down, but we had something for him today. In qualifying, I felt like I left a few tenths out there and it seemed like I was able to find at least one of them at the start of the race."

Despite qualifying on pole during Saturday morning's qualifying session, Spies was unable to match Mladin's torrid pace and had to settle for second.

"I was pushing as hard as I could to stay with Mat, and I lost the rear and I was just happy I was able to hang on. After that, I couldn't get back into a rhythm again. I tried to hang on to him but we just didn't have the speed today."

Finishing third was the third Rockstar Makita Suzuki piloted by Tommy Hayden. Yamaha's Eric Bostrom finished a few seconds behind him, while Yamaha's Jason Disalvo barely edged out American Honda's Miguel Duhamel for fifth.

Crasher's included Duhamel's teammate, Neil Hodgson as well as Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jamie Hacking. Jordan Suzuki's Aaron Yates failed to finish the race after encountering a problem on his GSX-R1000.

Superbike Race 2 Results

Sunday's 28-lap Superbike Race 2 was an almost carbon copy of yesterday's race. Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Mat Mladin again decimated the competition winning the race by over 9 seconds. This weekend's double victory cut into Spies points lead. Mladin now trails Spies by just 16 points with only two rounds remaining.

"I tried to set a fast pace and pull away," Mladin said. "I was able to do that. VIR is a place that I've been able to win reasonably comfortably."

Taking second was Ben Spies, who had a lonely racing finishing well ahead of teammate Tommy Hayden.

"We just didn't quite have enough for Mat today," said Spies after the race. "But we'll keep on riding as hard as we can every weekend. Even though we didn't get the win, hats off to my teammates for a great race and going one-two-three for Rockstar Makita Suzuki."

Yamaha's Eric Bostrom would again finish fourth. Miguel Duhamel was the top Honda finisher in fifth with Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jamie Hacking behind Duhamel in sixth.
