The Supersport race on Sunday was bookended by dangerous crashes. The morning's practice was the scene of a fiery incident, with a low-side crash igniting the safety straw bales. The rider, Garret Carter, had to be dragged out as the flames spread. Medics moved quick and Carter was transported by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The low-side resulted in a concussion and one-night stay in the hospital for the Yamaha privateer. In the afternoon the scheduled 17 laps were cut short with a red-flag crash.

The main event saw Roger Hayden burn out to the holeshot followed by Josh Hayes and Jamie Hacking. The championship-leading Hayes grabbed the lead by the end of Lap 1 with the Monster Energy Kawasakis in tow. Celtic Yamaha's Chaz Davies was fourth with Attack Kawasaki's Steve Rapp right behind.

Hayden snatched the lead back from Hayes on Lap 3 as the front five bunched together. The margin between first and fifth was less than a second on Lap 5 when Hacking passed Hayes for second. On Lap 7 Hacker managed to get around his teammate and began to check out.

At Lap 10 Hayes managed to wrestle the lead away from Hacking, but it was short-lived as the advantage was regained by the Kawasaki rider. While Steve Rapp dropped off the leaders in fifth, the top four of Hacking, Hayes, Hayden and Davies were all within a second of each other.

Hayes and Hacking swapped the lead again as the laps waned with the Erion Honda rider getting around and opening up a small gap as they approached lapped traffic.

The lappers held Hayes up on Lap 15 and Hacking seized the lead, although the Honda rider stayed within spitting distance of the Kawasaki leader. Hayes grabbed the lead once again in the carousel, just seconds before the red flag was thrown. The race was called with the red-flag incident and results were taken from the last full lap, which was Lap 14, giving Hayes the victory anyway.

"What a great race, what can I say," said Hayes on the podium of his pair of Infineon victories on the 600. "It's a great machine, everybody needs to go get themselves a Honda CBR600!"

The victory extends Hayes championship lead to 12 over Hayden. The reigning Supersport champion, Hacking, falls to 30 back with his second-place finish.
