Rockstar Suzuki s Mat Mladin.
Mladin looks to reclaim the AMA Superbike champion title in 2009.
Mat Mladin has been the most dominant rider in the modern era of AMA Superbike racing. The Australian is quick to point out that his Yoshimura Suzuki crew is the reason he has been able to win on a regular basis. That is nice but someone has to ride the bike and they have the most consistent rider on the circuit today. In 2001 he wrapped up his third consecutive AMA Superbike title on an all new GSXR and showed no signs of slowing down.
The 2002 season was an anomaly, with Nicky Hayden winning the crown. But Mladin was back at it, ripping off another three consecutive titles before his teammate, Ben Spies, stole the 2006 crown.

For the past three seasons (2006-2008) Mladin has been runner up, but with Spies gone to World Superbike will Mladin return to his Champion status in 2009?

Career Highlights:
2008 - 2nd AMA Superbike Series
2007 - 2nd AMA Superbike Series
2006 - 2nd AMA Superbike Series
2005 - Champion - AMA Superbike Series
Spies had a bumpy ride in Race 1 and had to do everything within his power to finish in second place.
Always a demon on the brakes, Mladin was unable to use his old tricks to hold off Spies for the 08 AMA Superbike crown.

2004 - Champion - AMA Superbike Series
2003 - Champion - AMA Superbike Series
2002 - 7th AMA Superbike Series
2001 - Champion - AMA Superbike Series
2000 - Champion - AMA Superbike Series

I can't believe that Suzuki are letting Mat go after all this time. Saw and met him in the first race of the season at Daytona and he was as excellent as always. However since the new owners have taken over AMA I have been unable to see any racing as I live in England. I do however follow on the web and will miss hearing about Mat.

Mat's contract with American Suzuki is done after this season. But I really doubt his done racing. Cosidering his age, in my opinion he still has plenty of racing ahead if him. I'm sure he gets phone calls evry now and then for a job interview for next year. But I think the only thing stopping him from World Super bike is that he is so comfortable here in the states. American Suzuki has taken good care of him, spoiled him would be an understatement. I don't think he fears the competition outside of the states, it's more like the traveling in different parts of the world to race that makes him not want to go. But anyhow, I don't care where he goes, He is one of the best of all time, he will continue collecting more wins, he will kick a lot of ass and yes he is a champion and will be champion again at the end of this season.
