Martin Cardenas celebrates his Formula Xtreme podium with a swig - Barber
Martin Cardenas sips the victory champgne after finishing on the podium in the Formula Xtreme final at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.

This Columbian-born roadracer worked his way through the regional ranks, making a name for himself as an over achiever on the way to getting his shot in the Spanish championships in 2001. He debuted in the 250 MotoGP series in 2005 after racing with some success in Spain and winning the Latin American Supersport title. His reputation landed him a ride in 250 MotoGP where he was the first Columbian rider to ever compete in that series.

His stint on the Repsol Honda 250GP team was supposed to be his big break but a crash in the first race hindered him the rest of the season. From that point on he wa sin the right place at the right time. After coming to race in the US he was offered a ride with the M4 Suzuki squad as a replacement for an injured rider and his been a staple of the team ever since.
