Josh Hayes made the jump to blue in for the 2009 season joining the Graves Yamaha Team.
Josh Hayes is a dedicated road racer who started in 1994 on a F2 that he tuned himself while driving from race to race. Sound familar? If so, you have to root for this guy as he is making his dreams of being a pro road racer come true. If there is one thing Josh does really well, its racing the big bore bikes.
It's been a long and often painful road for Josh Hayes, but the Attack Suzuki rider from Gulfport, Miss., finally broke through to win the 2003 AMA Genuine Suzuki Accessories Superstock title with a second-place finish at Barber Motorsports Park last Saturday.
It was the first AMA Championship for Hayes, who has been a regular in AMA Pro Racing since 1999. Hayes' championship marked the continued domination in AMA Superstock racing for Suzuki and its GSX-R750.
Hayes was a cool cucumber heading down the final stretch of the down-to-the-wire FX championship hunt in 2006. Racing for Erion Honda (after a previous stint with Kawasaki), Hayes was consistent all season long and took the title when he claimed the checkers at the season finale, besting the winningest FX rider ever, Eric Bostrom. For 2007 Hayes will defend that title and switches from Superstock to Supersport, so the Mississippi native will get mighty familiar with the new CBR600RR.
During the 2006-2007 seasons, Josh Hayes was the AMA Formula Xtreme champion. In 2008 Hayes came runner up in Formula Xtreme, ending his championship streak. At the end of 2008 he made the jump to the blue bikes joining the Graves Yamaha Team. He will be riding a Yamaha YZF-R1 for the 2009 AMA Superbike season and a YZF-R6 in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike series.
