Kevin Windham scored yet another podium finish and is putting together a solid season - Atlanta
Kevin Windham won again but his three point gain on Chad Reed still has him a comfortable margin outside of striking distance. Reed would need to give up 11 points to lose the title.
Kevin Windham picked up another victory as the Supercross season comes down to the final round next weekend in Vegas. Tonight's crowd at Quest Field showed up over 48,000 strong to watch the Torco Racing Fuels Honda rider claim his second consecutive victory. Windham's Honda cohort Andrew Short pulled the holeshot and was in a great position to help fend off Chad Reed who finished the first lap in 19th. The Yamaha rider went to work immediately and was into 14 on Lap 2 and sixth at the halfway point.

"In the first turn, I crashed into the back wheel of Davi Millsaps' bike and fell down," said Reed. "When I was coming through the pack, I saw a bunch of Honda bikes and knew I was outnumbered, but I made the pass."

The Honda squad did little to help their comrade and Windham, who bobbled back to fifth on Lap 3 and had to wait until Lap 18 before working his way around Short. Reed was able to make the pass into second on the last lap.

"I rode great tonight," said Windham. "I wish I came away with more points, but that's how it goes. I am excited to go to Las Vegas next week. It's going to be a great race."

Supercross Lites

The West Coast Lites retook the stadium tracks after a two-month layoff. Ryan Dungey and Jason Lawrence resumed their battle for the championship and Lawrence moved into second behind Dungey on Lap 5. They would remain in those positions for the next 10 laps as the Suzuki rider held on for a wire-to-wire victory.

It s no fluke. Jason Lawrence knocked off his second consecutive victory - A3
Jason Lawrence rode a smart race to garner second place on the night and took home his first AMA Supercross Lites title.
"I was really happy with the way I rode tonight," said Dungey. "I know where I made some mistakes this year, and I am going to fix them. I learned a lot this year."

Despite the win, Dungey came up three points short of the title which went to the Yamaha rider, Lawrence.

"Once I settled into second place, I was really nervous," said Lawrence. "I just wanted to keep it on two wheels and ride a smart race. I was really comfortable when my Yamaha teammate Broc Hepler was behind me."

Bobby Kiniry was running a strong race after holeshotting the main event, but he would eventually DNF after hanging inside the top-5 for the first third of the race. Austin Stroupe finished fourth on the night and third in the season standings on his Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki KX250F.

It's off to Vegas for the bragging-rights-only East/West shootout and then on to the great wide open of the outdoor Nationals.
