Josh Hansen will be starting his second season on the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team.
We caught up with Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Lites rider Josh Hansen at the recent 2011 Monster Kawasaki Team Introduction and picked his brain on what to expect from him for this year’s Supercross season. Nick named Lil’ Hanny, he recently landed the 2010 Australian Supercross Championship onboard a Pro Circuit Kawasaki KX450F and is looking to use that momentum to drive him forward in the Lites class under the direction of team manager Mitch Payton. Hansen finished sixth overall in the 2010 AMA Supercross West Coast Lites Region with one win at the Salt Lake City round. Other wins in his career include two gold medal and one bronze medal in the X Games version of Supercross known as Super X.

Congratulations on claiming the 2010 Australian Supercross Championship. Was it hard to do and what are your thoughts on it?

I think it was a good thing that I went out there to Australia and won the title. I know that people don’t have a huge amount of respect for the series but being able to put together seven races kind of equals out to what I need to do here for 2011 AMA Supercross. Being consistent and keeping my head straight for a couple months is really important to me since I have had problems in the past focusing on an entire season. I was really stoked Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki gave me the chance to race in the series and it felt good to take the crown.

Do you feel racing and winning in Australia was an important step for you in preparing for the 2011 AMA Supercross series?

It was important to me because there is nothing better than racing rather than being at home just hitting a test track every day. Being able to race and having that intensity and mind frame always helps to prepare for what I’m going to be doing here in Supercross.

Are you mentally and physically prepared for what lies ahead in the 2011 Supercross season?

I feel like I’m good shape and have been training hard which is new to me. I feel pretty solid and think I’m in the best shape I have ever been going into a season and I’m super excited about it.

What have you been doing in terms of training to prepare for Supercross this season?

Mitch Payton and I had a sit down and Mitch was clear on what he expects from me. I have been working with Dr. G who started helping me at the end of the Australian Supercross season and now I’m getting help from both Dr. G and Ivan Tedesco. Ivan and I have been doing laps and I’m kind of sticking with him for training sessions since we work really well together. Between Dr. G and Tedesco helping me out, it’s really been a good thing for me.

If you had the choice of East or West, what would you choose and why?

I’m 50 / 50 on what I would want to do regarding East or West. Obviously West would be good for me since it’s in front of all my friends and family and it’s just cool to be West Coast. I do like East as well because of all the rain races and I think that the tracks are much more technical which really suits my style better. Both have their pros and cons but I’m up for either one and really Mitch has not specified what I will be riding in yet. We will just have to wait and see this Saturday.
