Known originally as an outdoor specialist, Mike has figured out how to keep pace in Supercross as well.
Mike Alessi was perhaps the most highly anticipated rider to come out of the amateur ranks in the past decade. With his brother, Jeff, alongside and a father who aggressively pushed every aspect of their careers, Mike jumped straight into the big-bike class at the end of the 2004 outdoor season and posted a third overall at Steel City, He would then bump down to the 250 class where he raced for Red Bull KTM. It has taken him several years to overcome the negative stigma gained by his boastful "Believe the Hype" entrance to the pro ranks and several additional unpopular incidents.
Now, after leaving KTM for Rockstar Makita Suzuki, Mike has made the full-time switch to the 450 class and is thriving. Under the watchful eye of Roger DeCoster and with input from the likes of Ricky Carmichael, Mike has become the veteran leader for the yellow squad. He is consistently at the front of the pack and is one of the few men who can keep James Stewart in sight. Number 800 is never boring to watch and is always a threat whether inside the tight confines of stadium Supercross or on the wide-open tracks of the National Motocross series.
