British Superbike Oulton Park Results

Airwaves Yamaha rider Leon Camier powered to his first double victory in Round 2 of the British Superbike Championship in Oulton Park. The first Superbike race began on a dry track with Hydrex Honda’s Stuart Easton setting the pace ahead of Karl Harris and Camier, but a red-flag stopped the action on the second lap after John Laverty crashed heavily on the Hilltop. ustain serious injury despite being momentarily knocked unconscious.

When the race restarted Camier lost a few places off his pole position as Harris, Easton, and Glen Richards charged off the grid. By the third lap Camier had dispatched Easton and Richards and caught up with Harris, running toe-to-toe with the Hydrex Honda rider before finally taking the lead on the sixth-lap. With three laps to go the rain began to fall, but the 6'3" Camier managed to continue clocking fast laps to claim victory by over a second on the former British Superbike champion Harris.

"It was a really hard race at the beginning but I got into a rhythm and started picking them off,” said Camier. “As the race went on the wind picked up and it made it hard to ride. At the first corner it was pushing me wide and pushing me into other riders. I am happy with that though and want to do the same in race two."

Meanwhile, Simon Andrews crashed out on the fifth lap after making a hard charge for fourth, which opened the door for Sylvain Guintoli to slip in behind Easton. The Frenchman finally wrestled past Easton on the eighteenth lap and held onto third-place despite Easton best attempts to reclaim the podium.

Airway Yamaha rider James Ellison shadowed HM Plant Honda's Glen Richards until the final lap, when he made a splendid move to claim fifth-place.

A battle ensued for seventh, with Ian Lowry maintaining his advantage despite challenges from SMT Honda's Jason O'Halloran. Josh Brookes was not as fortunate though, with Quay Garage Honda's Gary Mason bagging ninth from the HM Plant Honda rider in the last few laps.

Graham Gowland suffering a broken collarbone after a crash in pre race qualifying and was unable to race the Motorsport Henderson Yamaha.

Leon Camier wrapped-up Race 2 of Oulton Park in style.
The win in Race 1 gave Camier the boost of adrenaline needed to come back and wallop the competition in Race 2.
The opening of Race 2 at Oulton Park once again pitted Airwaves Yamaha's Leon Camier against Stuart Easton and Karl Harris, with the two Hydrex Honda riders taking the early lead as Camier dropped a few spots from his pole position. Easton suffered a technical failure in lap two that Harris to assume the front. A lap later Camier came flying past Harris and never looked back, eventually finishing seven seconds ahead of Harris to capture Yamaha’s first double British Superbike win in 11 years.

Leon reflected on his twin aces, “We really didn’t expect a double win today, it feels awesome. We knew the Airwaves Yamaha would struggle being down on top speed, but it handled so well. The guys at GSE Racing have done such an amazing job this weekend. It hasn’t been easy for them so I must say a massive thank you and hope the result pays them back for all their hard work.”

Sylvain Guintoli showed what it means to be a Relentless Suzuki rider, carving his way from a poor tenth-place start on the first-lap all the way back to capture third ahead of Airwaves Yamaha rider James Ellison. Guintoli finishes the weekend second in the BSB championship standings, trailing Camier by 11 points.

Guintoli summarized his performance, "All weekend we have played catch-up. The team has put in so much effort to put me in a position to challenge for the podium. Because of the time taken to learn the circuit we didn't have a perfect set-up for the first race and this hurt me from mid-race on as I struggled for grip. But we made some adjustments and for the second race the bike was

brilliant."

Ellison commented after the race, “I struggled in race one, it was really difficult to get the drive I needed to make some passes. In between races we changed our gearing to the same as Leon and it made a huge difference. I’m disappointed to have missed out on a podium but I feel positive about the races ahead and I can’t wait to get to Donington Park!”

Glen Richards, who swept Oulton Park last year on his way to the British Supersport title, capped-off fifth-place on the HM Plant Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade.

Josh Brookes made good progress on the other factory-supported HM Plant Honda, passing Andrews on lap twelve for seventh, then Lowry a lap later for sixth. However, technical problem raised their ugly head and forced the Australian to the pitlane and a disappointing 23rd for the race.

Ian Lowry took advantage of the opening Brookes left for sixth. Coupled with the solid seventh-place ride in Race 1 it was a noteworthy performance for the Relentless Suzuki rider who was recovering from a nasty crash at the opening round at Brands Hatch.

“I’ve had a great weekend and it’s really been steady away from the first session,” said Lowry. “I really love riding the GSX–R1000 Superbike and I’m learning every time I throw my leg over it. I enjoyed both races today and I didn’t try to over stretch and start performing any heroics. I got the chance to mix it with some of the series favorites and we’ve proven as a team the Relentless Suzuki package is good enough to be up there challenging for top results. I have a

couple of weeks off now to cheer on my road racing team-mates at the North West 200, then it’s back to business at Donington Park.”

Jester -BSB puts AMA Pro to shame... hands down.  May 6, 2009 04:39 AM
Now THIS is a truly awesome domestic series. AMA Pro could learn a thing or two from the BSB organizers. Bikes are competitive with WSB machines, allowing riders to make the leap very easily. The racing is extremely close and the tracks are awesome. The commentation is excellent on British Eurosport 2, with people that actually get you excited about what you are watching rather than putting you to sleep with boring anecdotes. I swear, the love of motorbike racing in the UK is almost enough to make you want to move overseas. Too bad we don't have enough support for roadracing in the US to air out own domestic series live, let alone another country's, cause we're missing out! Sylvain and Leon are making it a very interesting season of BSB.
