Leon Camier broke the record for the most number of wins in a British Superbike season this weekend, completing the first ever ‘triple' race win at Brands Hatch. Victory number 14 for Leon also enters the record book as Team Manager Colin Wright's 100th British Superbike win. Leon now sits 113.5 points ahead of his teammate James Ellison in the Championship, who finished 6th, 5th and 3rd for the weekend.

Leon Camier - British Superbike Brands Hatch
Leon Camier continues to dominate the 2009 British Superbike season, taking the hat-trick at Brands Hatch.
In Race One, Leon produced one of his best starts of the year to slot into 3rd from pole position. James initially got away well to fight alongside his teammate into the first corner. However, by the end of lap 1, James found himself back in 6th. After making up a place, Leon quickly chased down Broc Parkes, the Kawasaki World Superbike Wild Card rider. James meanwhile became involved in a 6-way battle. On lap 10 Leon took the lead going through on the inside of Druids, eventually taking the chequered flag by nearly two seconds. James successfully managed to withhold a number of challenges to maintain his 6th place.

After race one James commented, "My start was pretty good but from the first lap I had a problem with the front end of the Airwaves Yamaha and lost some places. The problem seemed to get worse as the race went on but I kept pushing. I managed to start closing the gap to the rider in front, but I ran out of laps to do anything more. We've struggled after not doing any laps yesterday, but now we have a good amount of data to work with ahead of the two races tomorrow. I'm confident we'll see some big improvements and be back on form."

Firmly securing his place as GSE Racing's most successful rider, Leon was delighted to take his 12th victory of the season in front of his home crowd saying, "It's been a perfect day. The race was pretty hard. Broc Parkes managed to build a gap at the start and I had to push to catch him. It was really hot out there and pretty greasy so I had to focus on being smooth and not doing anything too aggressive. I didn't actually mean to pass him where I did, but I pulled it off. I then got my head down. I made a few small mistakes but luckily by that point I had a bit of a gap. It's feels fantastic to win at Brands Hatch today. We've got a lot of people here from GSE Group as it's their home track as well as mine. More of the same tomorrow would be great!"

Leon led from the start of Race Two, managing to build a small gap until the Safety Car was deployed at the end of lap 4. The race resumed on lap 9 and Leon had to immediately fend off a challenge from the World Superbike Wild Card Rider, Broc Parkes. Leon responded with a fastest lap of 1:26.524, eventually crossing the line 4.5 seconds ahead. James, who had dropped to 9th at the start, worked hard to make his way through the field. After a couple of tough battles with Steve Brogan on the Honda and the Yamaha of Chris Walker, James secured 5th on lap 18 of 20.

James Ellison - British Superbike Brands Hatch
Camier's Airwaves Yamaha teammate James Ellison was off the front runners pace at Brands Hatch, yet remains securely second in the championship standings.
At the start of Race Three James jumped to 3rd whilst Leon dropped to 8th. Some exciting overtaking saw Leon make his way up to 2nd by lap 4. He pushed to close a 3.474 second gap to the rider in front, taking the lead for the eventual win on lap 15. After being pushed down to 5th in the early stages, James fought his way into 3rd on lap 12 to join his teammate on the podium.

After scoring his third win of the weekend, Leon commented, "I'm over the moon to secure Colin Wright's 100th BSB victory. To win the first ever triple, and beat Niall Mackenzie's record for race wins at my home round is really special. Both races today were difficult. I had possibly my best ever start in Race Two. We don't have launch control on the Airwaves Yamaha, but I managed to get away at the front anyway. Then in the third race, I had my usual bad start and fell right back. I knew I had to get up to the front quickly else there'd be too much of a gap to make up. Once I was in the lead, I just had to get my head down and pull away. The crowd at Brands Hatch has been amazing, so thank you to everyone for their support."

Recording a 9th podium finish of the season, James said, "My start in Race One wasn't too bad, but I struggled behind a couple of riders who were blocking me everywhere. I was trying every chance I could to get by. But once I'd passed them, I managed to pull a gap. We didn't make any changes to the Airwaves Yamaha in between races. I just needed to get a better start, which I did! In the third race the package felt a lot better. Every session we've managed to improve our times. I even broke into the 1 minute 26 second barrier in Race Two. It's such a relief to get on to the podium and be a part of Colin's celebrations."

On securing his 100th British Superbike victory, Team Manager Colin Wright said, "I'm over the moon but feeling old! The credit I have received is humbling but none of it could have been achieved without the total commitment and dedication of the people who I have worked with since 1988. Thank you to everyone who has made this milestone possible."

British Superbike Brands Hatch Post-Race Rider Quotes

Tommy Hill – Worx Cresent Suzuki – 5th, 4th, 7th
"This wasn't the worst day, but it wasn't the best either. We made progress in the first race today and being so close to getting the podium really fired me up for that second race. But right from the start I knew it wasn't to be as I'd lost a load of feeling in the front. I knuckled down and I really didn't want to lose places but it was a very difficult race. Definitely, these are not the results we come racing for."

Chris Walker - Motorpoint Henderson's Yamaha – 9th, DNF, 12th
"With the new 3 race format here this weekend we were always catching up with set up time, saying that it is the same for the rest of the guys. It has been a weekend to forget, with a puncture in the Saturday race, a bike failure in the second race and no grip in the 3rd race I'm worn out ! Re group for our local race at Cadwell in a couple of weeks and hopefully get back to the front"

Michael Rutter – MSS Colester Kawasaki - 11th, DNF, 10th
“I’m reasonably pleased with my performance this weekend bearing in mind I’ve never ridden the bike before and I rode a different bike every session! It’s never easy jumping from bike to bike and team to team but the lads here have been fantastic and hopefully I’ve managed to give them some strong data and feedback.”

Julien da Costa – MSS Colester Kawasaki - 10th, 11th, DNF
“I have been struggling this weekend with front end feel as the fuel load gets lighter but we made some good progress with this in the final race. I'm looking forward to Cadwell Park - at last a circuit I have already raced and won on.”

Graeme Gowland - Motorpoint Henderson's Yamaha – DNF, 9th, 15th
"A pretty frustrating weekend, I had the best feeling with the bike all through Saturday and in the first race, I don't know what happened in the last race, I lost all front end grip and really had to ride carefully. Tough weekend for our team and we will have to get heads together for the next race.”
