The Parts Canada Superbike Championship will host a trio of doubleheader weekends as it celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2010.

Race City Motorsport Park in Calgary, Bowmanville, Ont.’s Mosport International Raceway and Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, N.S. will each stage a pair of feature races next summer. A single-round season opener at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Que. on May 28-30 fills out the seven- race schedule.

“We have had a great deal of success with doubleheader events in the past, particularly at Mosport,” said Colin Fraser of Professional Motorsports Productions, which organizes the Parts Canada Superbike Championship. “This format provides excellent value to our fans and competitors, which is an important consideration in these challenging economic times.”

Circuit ICAR made its debut on the national schedule last June with a very successful event on its 2.8km (1.74-mile) 14-turn circuit, as the Superbike tour made a welcome return to the province of Quebec.

Rounds 2 and 3 of the series will be held on the 3.2km (2.0-mile) Race City track, a mainstay of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship. The venue has staged 28 national rounds since 1987 and most recently hosted a doubleheader in 2007.

From Calgary the tour returns east to the fabled 3.9km (2.459-mile) Mosport International Raceway for Rounds 4 and 5, July 8-11. The track has run a doubleheader since 2003 and last year staged its 25th Canadian Superbike National. The circuit will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2010.

The 2010 Parts Canada Superbike Championship wraps up with Rounds 6 and 7 at Atlantic Motorsport Park, a 2.56km (1.6-mile) track near Halifax that has also hosted 25 Canadian nationals.

Ending the season with a doubleheader should ensure a dramatic finish to the 2010 title chase, which has been all but clinched heading into the final round in recent years. AMP last hosted a twin bill in 2005.

The 2010 Parts Canada Superbike Championship will include classes for Parts Canada Pro Superbike, Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike, Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike, the Honda CBR125R Challenge and a new Sports Twins Pro/Am division.

The Sports Twins class will replace the long-running Suzuki SV650 National Cup and will be similar to the now defunct Thunder class in Canada and Moto-ST endurance program in the U.S. It will be open to liquid-cooled twins producing no more than 75 horsepower and air-cooled twins of up to 90 horsepower, with horsepower enforced on the official series Dynojet Dynamometer.

The Pro Honda Oils Women’s Cup is tentatively scheduled to share the bill with the regular national classes at ICAR and Mosport.

The Parts Canada Superbike Championship will not visit Calabogie Motorsports Park in Calabogie, Ont. in 2010 but hopes to be back in 2011, when the economic situation and track upgrade activities permit. The venue was a popular addition to the national tour in 2008 and 2009.

“We are facing tough economic times and that has thrown up some challenges this off-season,” Fraser said. “But the national series has a proud history and it was important for us to present as strong a series as we could. We are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Superbike nationals and we are looking forward to another exciting season.”
The Parts Canada Superbike Championship enjoys the ongoing support of Parts Canada, Pirelli, Canadian Kawasaki Motors, Honda Canada, BMW Motorrad Canada and Deeley Racing.

Calgary-based Parts Canada is entering its 11th year as title sponsor of the Superbike Nationals. Such a lengthy title sponsorship arrangement is almost unheard of in Canadian motorsport.

Pirelli is entering its fifth year as spec tire supplier to the national series.

Television coverage of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship is again planned for TSN HD and TSN, with eight one-hour episodes, as in 2009.

Brantford, Ont.’s Jordan Szoke became the first racer to claim four consecutive Parts Canada Superbike Championship titles in 2009, riding for the Canadian Kawasaki Motors team. He also picked up his sixth national Superbike crown, tying him with the legendary Steve Crevier for the most Canadian championships in the sport’s history.
