Tim Reeves and Dan Sayle claimed victory in the opening Isle of Man TT
race for 2013. The duo took the Sidecar 1 TT win ahead of Conrad Harrison and Mike Aylott, with the team of Dave Molyneux and Patrick Farrance rounding out the Race 1 podium. The victory ties Sayle as the most successful passenger in TT sidecar history with eight wins. Meanwhile the victory marks Reeves’ first TT win.
The opening TT race saw the duo of Ben and Tom Birchall running up front on the first lap, but the early leaders were forced to retire from a tire puncture. This gave the advantage to Reeves/Sayle, who turned the first lap at a 113.75 mph average.
Manx rider Molyneux and passenger Farrance trailed the lead pair in second on the timing, though having started first they were physically ahead of Reeves/Sayle on course. The latter duo turned an even better second lap, at 114.608 mph and the final lap saw Reeves/Sayle pass their competitors on the road.
The leaders well and clear of their rivals, the race became for second. Harrison and Aylott chipped away at the Molyneux/Farrance advantage, charging to the line and claiming second position by a mere 0.538.
