Isle of Man Superstock TT Results 2013

Monday, June 3, 2013
Michael Dunlop pressed his Isle of Man TT winning streak to three, with the Northern Ireland rider taking the victory in Monday’s Superstock race. Dunlop claimed the win, ahead of Kawasaki’s Gary Johnson, via a record-breaking final lap. John McGuinness rounded out the Superstock TT podium, the 38th TT rostrum for the King of the Mountain.

Contrasting Dunlop’s Supersport and Superbike victories, which saw the Honda rider run upfront unchallenged after the first lap, the Superstock victory came only after final lap heroics. Instead it was Johnson that led the opening laps, the Englishman leading fellow Kawasaki rider James Hillier off the start. Dunlop moved into second at the end of Lap 1, but Johnson held strong going into the fourth and final lap.

Having endured two DNFs in the opening TT races, Johnson nursed his Kawasaki to the finish, the ZX-10R reportedly suffering an oil leak. But the door opened for Dunlop, who brisked by with a 131.22 mph Lap 4 – a record-breaking time for the Superstock class and vaulting him up to the lead.

Michael Dunlop is making a habit of scoring Number One plates at this year's TT races.
Dunlop’s TT-winning lap is not far off the all-time Mountain Course record, re-upped by McGuinness on Sunday to 131.671 mph aboard his Superbike. Dunlop’s STK lap easily beat the previous class best, 130.741 mph set by Ian Hutchinson in the 2010 Superstock TT. Like Dunlop, Hutchinson’s 2010 feat came during his third consecutive TT win – with the English rider going on to sweep all five TT races that year, an unprecedented feat.

Kawasaki rider Dean Harrison marked his best TT result with a fourth-place finish, while earlier Supersport 1 runner-up Bruce Anstey placed fifth in the Monday afternoon race.
