Superbike TT Opener and set a new record pace with a 130.422 Lap 2; Steve Plater
took second behind his teammate McGuinness; Hydrex Honda rider Guy Martin placed
third; McGuinness receiving the the Dainese Superbike TT trophy from Valentino Rossi.
John McGuinness scored his 15th Isle of Man TT win during the opening race – the Dainese Superbike TT. The HM Plant Honda rider took the victory unchallenged, leading all six laps and setting a new record with a 130.422-mph lap during his second turn of the famed circuit (The 131-mph lap, set by the now-injured Cameron Donald, is not an official record as it did not occur during an actual TT race.

McGuinness was joined on the Superbike TT rostrum by fellow Honda CBR1000RR riders Steve Plater (HM Plant Honda) and Guy Martin (Hydrex Honda).

Fellow 130-mph member, Bruce Anstey, suffered bad luck on the first lap of the TT opener – retiring from the race aboard his Relentless Suzuki. The top Kawasaki rider, Conor Cummings, also did not finish, pulling out on the last lap.

The result was a domineering presence by Honda, which celebrates its 50th year of racing at the Isle, with a top-five sweep with Ian Hutchison in fourth and Gary Johnson in fifth.

As it was my first visit to the island, i have to say what a marvellous spectical it was. Four over 50yrs i said i would come and i would not have missed it for the world, the sound the noise and the spell took me right back to the 60s when people could speak and have a drink with them, i would like to thank all the people who made us welcome and to the marshalls and everyday people who make this world spectical something no other country could ever replace.

Thanks to all of you please keep and make this your very unique race. KEEP THE HEALTH AND SAFTEY OUT

I was there. Yes, the Superbike race was excellent. I watched it from Parliament Square. Why no coverage of Superstock and Supersport? They were also excellent!
