Help Cure Spinal Cord Injuries!

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Check out Wings for Life!
From time to time I like to remind readers and friends about a foundation that I am personally involved with: Wings for Life

“The way is in sight and the goal is clearly defined: A life without wheelchair. Wings for Life has dedicated itself to this future.”

Founded in 2004 by Dietrich Mateschitz, CEO Red Bull, and Heinz Kinigadner, multiple-time motocross world champion, funding for the spinal cord research foundation is fully private, the majority coming from energy drink giant Red Bull.

Being passionate about a sport that carries a higher-than-average risk-factor, spinal cord injuries are a part of reality. This is something that has affected several of those close to me, which is one of the reasons I am very passionate about WFL. I've proudly worn Wings for Life logos on all my helmets for a few years now and I will continue to for as long as I ride (see photo).

And although Red Bull provides a lot of the funding, it takes donations from the general public as well to keep such an amazing organization going.

Besides it being a great foundation, the website is also filled with loads of information and great content!  So, I urge you all to check out www.wingsforlife.com

There was a link to donate on line. That led to the aformentioned. I'll try mailing a check. Do I even have checks? :) How did you get the stickers? I didn't see them in the shop.

I'm not quite sure what you are talking about. I've made several donations for far less without problem. They list a mailing address with bank account where you can send anything amount wish to, as well as doing it online. You can also purchase WFL clothes from www.kimi.at, of which all the proceeds go you WFL. Where did you come across this?

It says that?! If that's true it's a joke. What a greedy organization. Most people don't have an extra $500 to give away.

I wanted to donate. Till I hit the screen that said donations of less than $500 dollars would be returned with an 8% service charge. I'll find another way closer to my means.

I couldn't think of a better cause to donate to. Being able to repair spinal cords would benefit all humans. Nobody is immune to this type of injury.
