Kawasaki has cut the professional off-road program of Team Green due to budget.
has decided to cut its Team Green professional off-road team at the end of this year due to budget cuts from the top brass. As of this moment there is no official word from Kawasaki, but the rumor mill and Facebook was abuzz with the news. We placed a call to Team Green Off-Road Manager Jason Smigel to confirm what was true and what wasn’t.
“We are putting a stop to the program as it is known right now; our intent is to figure out what level of support we can offer. Maybe a rider or two, we need to keep some level going,” said Smigel. “The Team Green program is still intact, this basically applies to the professional off-road portion of the team.”
Smigel went on to explain that the amateur MX program will remain “as strong as ever,” and the Team Green Dealer Rebate Racer Program in the MX and off-road arenas will not be affected either. Kawasaki Owners can still receive support from their local dealers.
As of now, it looks like the current WORCS Champion and top American at the 2012 ISDE Taylor Robert will perhaps be looking for a new team along with Justin Soule, Bobby Garrison and Destry Abbott.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
