Cheer Up - Hope is Coming

Wednesday, December 17, 2008
Take a look around these days today and it’s pretty easy to get depressed. Economic times haven’t been this bad in most of our lifetimes, and they don’t look to be getting much better any time soon. Even in our small niche of a world here on two wheels, we have seen signs of the times. Just take a look at Honda pulling out of AMA Superbike (and Formula 1), not to mention I wouldn’t be surprised if Kawasaki and Suzuki followed suit. But don’t throw your towel in just yet, oh no!

I just returned from a visit to Honda’s U.S. headquarters where they gave us journalists a sneak peek at one of their hot new 2009 models. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you anything about it, or even give you its name until January 16th at 9:00 a.m. (at which time we will have a full First Look), but I can tell you that it’s pretty freaking cool – and it is very un-Honda. They might have just pulled out of Formula 1 and AMA Superbike, all within a month’s time, but that doesn’t mean they are sitting back and taking it up the proverbial rear end. Quite the opposite.

So, while you may be quick to jump on Honda for pulling out of Superbike, just be patient and I’m sure they will be back. And keep an eye out right here at January 16th at 9:00 a.m. sharp to see what’s next for the Big Red Wing. You won’t be disappointed.

If any of Honda’s new bikes look or are priced as ridiculous as that underpowered Rune like Dwarf, the DN-01, then maybe Honda should withdraw from making motorcycles also.
