My new excuse to go riding more...
I have Deskitis. Not kidding. Just returned from getting a 5-inch needle stuck in my knee so I can better cope with sitting in my chair and typing all day. Sound like a load of BS to you? Me too. But I'm going to roll with it. Let me explain…
A couple years back I tore my ACL riding motocross – just like all my other injuries. I had it fixed and for the year following everything was fine and dandy. Until the last month. I noticed the longer I sat in one place the more pain I was feeling from the good ol’ right knee, especially when I was at my desk working for the grueling long hours it takes to be a moto-journalist. Right… Anyhow, as for when I’m riding and up walking around, totally fine. It only locks up when I’m sitting for long periods of time. As it turns out I have scar tissue building up from the surgery and a bone chip from… well, me being a goon doing something, I’m sure. Wonderful. That’s exactly the kind of news you want to get at 8:00 a.m. on a Monday morning.
So, first course of action was a massive needle stuck in my knee and a cortisone shot. While the shot hurt like hell, my knee does already feel better. But if this wears off and doesn’t work I may have to go back under the knife and get my knee scoped. All this so I can sit at my desk and work? So, like I said, it looks like I may have the first legit case of Deskitis I know of.
Looks like I better get up and go riding – 100%, totally, completely for medical reasons, of course. Dr. Graham said so…
