WSBK Live: Race 1 to Spies

Sunday, October 25, 2009
Ben Spies sets the World Superbike grid up AMA style with a Superpole victory at Phillip Island.
Race 1 to Spies with Haga on the ground. Sixth or better in Race 2 and the Texas kid brings home the World Superbike title. Stay tuned...
Hey all. Atlas here with a quick live update from Portugal. Ben Spies just took the top spot in Race 1 of the final World Superbike Championship showdown, while title leader Noriyuki Haga fell on Lap 6 in the tight, downhill Turn 5, losing the Championship lead in the process. Spies now sits at 451 with Haga at 436, giving the Texas kid a 15-point advantage going into the final race which starts in 20 minutes. Thus, if Haga wins the final Spies only has to finish sixth or better to win the title. Though we just ran into Spies during the break and he said he's going for the win! No cruising around for him. Stay tuned for the full results…
