Motorcycle Designed for Paraplegic Rider
Wednesday, December 09, 2009
Your friendly scribe SteveO here. I just caught wind of this motorcycle-related project from my former school, the University of Minnesota. It’s from a group of engineering students called “Team Motorcycle” and is designed to enable a disabled paraplegic the ability to ride again. Tim Bettger, one of the students, explains the machine in this video. Bettger is a disabled rider himself, so the project was especially important for him.
The motorcycle will now be delivered to Calgary, Alberta, giving Scott Tyson the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of his: Riding through the Rocky Mountains on a motorcycle. Tyson lost the use of his legs in a motorcycle accident 16 years ago. What a very cool project!
Update: We just received news from Ryan Mathre at the U of M that Tyson was delivered the motorcycle and got his dream ride. Check out the story here: http://www.calgarysun.com/news/alberta/2009/06/23/9895686-sun.html
