Canadian Road Race Champ Loses Ride

Jordan Szoke
Six-time Canadian champ Jordan Szoke (107) left without a ride for 2010?
Due to tough economic times, Kawasaki Canada’s road race team has let go six-time and currently defending Canadian Superbike Champion Jordan Szoke. This comes as a surprise move, shortly after the team being outsourced to Competition Systems.

It's said Szoke had agreed to ride a Competition Systems Kawasaki ZX-10R Superbike for the factory-supported team, while wanting to pay his own way to buy a ZX-6R and defend his 600cc championship by buying a bike and running it out of is our van. But according to several sources close to Szoke, the champ was simply told “no” over the phone, then hung up on by new team owner Mike Crompton, someone who has worked on the factory Kawasaki squad and with Szoke in years pasts as a crew member. Dumping your defending champ, who would be wearing the No. 1 plate next season, sure seems odd to us?

We suspect there is much more to it, which of course is not being said publically. As a result, 21-year-old Alex Welsh will race Superbike as the team’s only rider in 2010.

Yet another case of the affects of the world’s economy on the racing community? We'll let you know as we hear. Knowing people close to Szoke personally, I hope he's able to find a ride.

I wouldn't be surprised if AMAFAN is actually a disgruntled Roger Edmondson trying to get some revenge for his unemployment.

“Like going to the world stage is a tough decision” If it isn’t a tough decision then why didn’t these riders do it years ago, why now…maybe because DMG’s handling of the series caused them to make the decision to leave now. DiSalvo’s new team mate, Davies, did race over seas but came to America to race and is now headed back to Europe so not everyone wants to race on the world stage. Same goes for Neil Hodgson, he left the world stage came to America and has now left for BSB. Sure, they lost their rides because of the economy but they found rides somewhere else, so how come in this economy these riders can find rides in another series but not AMA. The AMA racers that raced on factory teams or factory satellite teams used to make more money than the riders on equivalent teams in World Supersport. Who and for what reasons would a racer want to race in the AMA right now? The series is a joke because of how poorly it has been managed. So few people want to put money into it: sponsors, factories, track owners, SpeedTV, fans and even DMG themselves by evidence of the pathetic purse payouts.
NorCalFilth -W1LLPOW3R- so scared of the speed!! January 18, 2010 04:05 PM
Hey i am not a hater... Maybe you have been asleep for the past year while Atlas and his friend Dean Adams have spewed nothing but hate. And one other thing if Steve was so fast then he could hold his own in a "televised club league" like the AMA.
NorCalFilth -Cant Blame the DMG/AMA??? January 18, 2010 03:39 PM
Hey Steve so now that the effects of the global financial crisis are hitting Canada are you going to lay off the DMG. Nice call with the Dean Adams link MV Man. Get this ... "DiSalvo and Davies opting for World Championship competition in 2010 makes it three riders that have decided world championship racing is their future instead of the DMG series.(Deam Adams Superbikeplanet.com)" Like going to the world stage is a tough decision. HAHAHA Atlas and Adams are hacks.

Steve, I don't give a sh*t where you get your info....I'm just glad you didn't try to blame AMA/DMG for Jordan losing his Canadian series ride!! :) (I'm sure Dean Adams will try to connect those dots.)
Steve Atlas -RE: W1LLPOW3R - Canadian Series... January 18, 2010 10:37 AM
You are fully correct my friend and information isn't hard to obtain. The intent of the post was to simply help Szoke, who is a deserving rider. It's a small industry... Thanks Will
AMAFAN -OK then... January 18, 2010 09:49 AM
...where is your attribution? There is only one report in the world out there with this information. Canadian racing news websites do not even have a story on the subject with this amount of detail. Who told you Crompton hung up the phone on Szoke? Who told you the details of their negotiations? Who told you Szoke hoped to race a 600 on his own dime? You have quoted no one and cited no source. Roadracingworld.com quoted Szoke, Crompton and Jeff Comello. Quit stealing from other journalists' stories to create your own because it is called plagiarism! Plagiarize - take and pass off another's thoughts, writings, etc. as one's own. If Motorcycleusa.com had any journalistic integrity they would remove this story and have a serious discussion about journalism and ethics with you. I wonder what the customers of the Motorcycle Superstore must think when they see this kind of integrity being displayed.
W1LLPOW3R -Canadian Series... January 18, 2010 09:44 AM
ignore the haters Steve, your speed probabaly scares them..
i like Szoke but the Canadian series is not that good anyway...
Steve Atlas -RE: AMAFAN - Plagiarism January 18, 2010 08:38 AM
Just because someone else reported something similar does not mean it's plagiarism. That would be stealing it word for word. Not to mention that while Roadracingworld.com is reporting the same thing and is a great news site, they aren't the only ones with connections to people involved in Kawasaki's road racing teams, the same people who told us this story.
Tim B -AMAFAN January 17, 2010 07:31 PM
Good catch! I don't know who is guilty of the plagiarism, but it's there in black and white!

Back on topic. This is a cowardly move by Kawasaki. I am not a Kawasaki fan at all, but I have to say this is low for them to drop a loyal champion. It could be likened to if Suzuki ever dropped Mladin.
AMAFAN -Plagiarism January 17, 2010 05:38 PM
Steve, Poor fact-checking and mis-spelling riders' names are some of your professional flaws, but when you take what you learn on one website, www.roadracingworld.com (http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=39155) and create a story of your own based solely on that information you are crossing a line called plagiarism. If you are not sure what plagiarism means you can look it up, along with the words "theft" and "lazy," in this book called the dictionary. I'm sure in a day or two you will be writing a story about Vesrah Suzuki quitting WERA to go AMA racing and you will cite "several sources." You are a disgrace to your profession.
