There really is nothing like motocross to get one's body and mind back into shape.
Man it felt good to ride motocross again after several months off due to another minor knee surgery. Well, maybe it didn’t feel so good the day after (damn I was sore), but it’s exactly what I needed.
One forgets that feeling of blitzing a set of whoops, railing a berm or flying through the air. Moto is the like surfing for the two-wheeled world – physically taxing most of the time, but so utterly peaceful and perfect as you fly over a 70-foot tabletop; very akin to that Zen-like feeling of catching the perfect wave.
While I may be coming back a few days (or weeks…) too early, a set of CTi knee braces kept my healing leg solidly in place and I played things safe, sticking to the intermediate track at Pala Raceway. And it was exactly what I needed to get my head back in the right place and relieve stress prior to the Modified Superbike Shootout we executed the following Monday at Willow Springs. Only riding once on the street the past two months just wasn’t cutting it. Thank you motocross…
I may not have been able to move a single muscle the day after I rode, but this is exactly what my body needed to start getting back in riding shape. Not to mention my mind. Combine that with a great track day at Willow two days after and the world felt right once again. A moto/road race junkie can only go so long without riding before cracking. And, man, I was close…
Though I was able to find a good substitute while I was laid up – Fantasy Racing. If you’re in the same state of mind I was, whether from injuries or a climate that’s not conducive to winter riding, be sure to check out Motorcycle-USA’s latest online game. It’s fun, especially with office bragging rights on the line! Right now we have World Superbike and MotoGP live, but expect to see outdoor motocross in the coming months as well!
