Continental Race Attack Tire Testing
Thursday, February 25, 2010

MotoUSA put the new Continental Race Attack Slick to the test at Streets of Willow yesterday.
Yesterday Road Test Editor Adam Waheed and I got a chance to swing out to a The Track Club track day at Streets of Willow and sample Continental’s newest race tire. Now you’re probably thinking ‘I didn’t even know Continental had a race tire?’ Well, they do...and they’re surprisingly good. Very good, in fact.
Called the Race Attack Competition and the Race Attack Slick, both tires are made up of a similar construction and compounding, the only difference being the Competition gets a few grooves cut in it to allow for DOT approval and Supersport-spec racing.
So we slung a set of the slicks on our
Kawasaki ZX-6R project bike to see what the talk was all about. Without giving too much away right now, the tire has a very Dunlop-like feeling to it with a rigid carcass and long-lasting rubber compound, providing the rider with ample feel and feedback. Despite windy and cold conditions we both went very quickly on the tire right away, which was quite eye-opening. And the best part is the price, with a set starting as low as $330 for the DOT and $340 for the Slick; roughly $100 less than most all of the competition.
That’s all the details we will give you for now, as our testing isn’t complete yet, but be sure to stay tuned for a full review coming up with tech specs, data and video. We have another day planned on both the Slicks and DOTs, to really get a feeling for the new rubber in a variety of conditions at different tracks, after which time we will give you the complete low-down.
In the meantime, be sure to check out
