Dunlop Download August 2010
The August 2010 issue of Dunlop Download in available online now.
Dunlop’s latest edition of Download, the tire manufacturer’s monthly digital magazine, is available online now for all to enjoy free of charge. The well-put-together and visually-pleasing virtual book delves into the world of motorcycle tires through Dunlop’s eyes, focusing almost entirely on the company’s racing endeavors both here and aboard, looking at everything from WORCS off-road racing to MotoGP’s Moto2 class. But where most press material of this kind is simply glorified multi-page ads, Dunlop actually produces some surprisingly well done editorial content for Download, attempting to give the reader a behind-the-scenes look into their world.

In this, the August 2010 issue, Suzuki factory motocross star Ryan Dungey graces the cover – the Minnesota native is currently in the midst of a history-making freshman season in the 450 class. Having already won the 2010 Supercross championship, he could become only the second rider in history to with both of the AMA’s premiere motocross championships as a rookie. He currently leads the National Motocross Series by 111 points with only three rounds remaining, so barring a major disaster he looks certain to put his name in the record books.

In other Dunlop racing news, as of the post date Monster Kawasaki’s Ricky Dietrich had taken over the WORCS Series points lead after winning two-straight events on their Geomax MX tire. Robbie Maddison flipped his way to the Red Bull X-Fighters win in

This month's issue features everything from AMA road racing to Summer X-Games action.
Madrid, Spain, on the same Dunlop knobby, while Ian Hutchinson used a trio of Dunlop slick-shod Padgett’s Hondas to take victory in an unprecedented five Isle of Man TT races, setting a new single-event win record for the 101-year-old road race. Dunlop dominated the race meeting with a total of 10 podium finishers, including a clean sweep of every race win and two lap records.

Summer X-Games recently concluded and Dunlop had a strong presence. Of a possible 21 medals up for grabs in various Supercross and FMX disciplines, Dunlop MX tire-shod riders won 19 of them, five of which were gold. The magazine feature takes a deeper look at who the big winners were and what it took to get there, not to mention some awesome accompanying action photos.

Many of the same riders winning in X-Games competition also race in the AMA National Motocross Series, which Dunlop now has a virtual stranglehold on since the departure of Bridgestone at the end of last season, with nearly every top team using the Geomax range of knobbies. Download gives an update of where the season sat when the issue went to post, while in a separate story it takes a look at the recent Mammoth Mountain MX races, a major event on the amateur circuit.

Since they are the sole tire provider for all three AMA Professional Road Racing Championships this year, Dunlop typically takes an in-depth look at some part of the series in most issues, keeping readers up to date with all the results and major news stories. For this issue the main feature takes a look at 16-year-old racing prodigy Elena Myers, who recently became the first female to win an AMA professional race, taking the top honors in the Supersport class at Northern California’s Infineon Raceway.

Former road racer-turned-custom-bike-builder Roland Sands and his company RSD are featured, taking readers on a tour of his Southern California shop, while the amazing Barber Motorsports Park museum is highlighted, giving readers a unique look at what is one of the most inclusive, impressive and valuable motorcycle collections in the world.
