The '06 Sport 1000 was the first year for this model. Classic Ducati shape; which to me is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the riding position is also "classic" Ducati Cafe racer. Low bars, high rear set which makes for a very uncomfortable riding posture. The engine is a very powerful torque monster. Plenty of grunt down low for powering out of corners. The suspension is a mixed bag; relatively compliant and keeps the tires planted. However, when the road surface becomes rough, the front end becomes skitish and can wobble on the unsuspecting. This bike needs a steering damper. In '07 Ducati put higher clip-ons which makes the riding position much better. The rear set remained high, but for canyon carving, at least you have to be "way over" to touch the pegs/boots. The only other issue that I have is the cost of maintenance. She needs a major tune-up every 6000 miles; with a quote from my dealership of around $700 plus parts. Not exactly a bargin. But this isn't a UJM, and it does have a lot of character. Does is have some warts? Absolutely. But one trip down a winding road, most of those warts disappear. She's smooth, powerful, and looks beautiful. On top of this, she's been stone reliable too. It is not for everyone; but if you like the classic lines and don't mind the cramped riding position, you too may find it tuggs on your heartstrings; just like it did to me way back in 2006.
