Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines is all smiles after securing the victory this past weekend at Maple Grove Raceway.
Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines defeated rookie sensation LE Tonglet in the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals to extend his lead to 74 points in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Hines 0.020-secoond reaction time and a 6.916-second run at Maple Grove Raceway helped him break a three-race losing streak to Tonglet and the Nitrofish Suzuki. Tonglet posted a faster time of 6.913-seconds in the finale but lost by virtue of his slower 0.043-second reaction time.
“This was a big win for the Screamin’ Eagle team,” said Hines. “We leave here with a little cushion in the championship race, up by 3.5 rounds with eight rounds left to go. Now we have two weeks off to go home and see the family, and find a little more power in the V-Rod.”
Hines piloted the Harley-Davidson V-Rod to his fifth NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle event win of the season and the 23rd final-round win of his NHRA career. Hines has been on-fire lately, reaching his seventh-straight final.
The Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider defeated Mohawk Automotive Kawasaki rider Neil Jacobs in the first round and then scored a red-light win over Coffman Tank Trucks Buell rider Angie Smith in Round Two. Hines took out teammate Eddie Krawiec in the semi-finals to set up the fourth consecutive final with Tonglet.
“Well, we finally got by that blue bike,” said Hines. “As has been the case in the past couple of races, we were losing
