The first tragic news of the 2009 Dakar Rally has finally broken with the announcement that Pascal Terry was found dead after going missing during Stage 2. The 49-year-old Frenchman was discovered at 2:10 a.m. The cause of death is unknown. Terry was seated in a shady spot approximately 50 feet from his WR450F and was equipped with food and water.

Riding the Dakar was always a dream and the move to South America was enough to prompt him into action. “The destination was actually the detonator, a renewal,” quoted Dakar.com. “It made me jump into a dream… I truly believe that it will be sensational. The place seems fabulous. We will witness a great moment and I will do all I can to enjoy every stage of the race.”
