A fast moving storm settled over the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, SD and dumped a huge amount of rain, which forced officials to call the AMA Flat Track races. Qualifying riders were awarded one point.

A thunderstorm moved over Black Hills Speedway caused the cancellation of the AMA Grand National Twins race. The racing started on time and qualifying and the first three heat races before the storm dropped heavy rain that made the track surface un-raceable.
