AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles
provided fans in Northern California with a memorable show as Crosley Radio’s Bryan Smith earned his third consecutive Sacramento Mile win by a fraction of a second ahead of some of the top riders in the sport. Smith beat out Rogers Racing’s Jared Mees in the Grand National Expert Twins class by a paltry 0.083 seconds at the checkers. TJ Burnett’s Brandon Robinson was only an additional 0.034 seconds behind that, finishing on the podium in third.
Smith took the holeshot and started to open a gap on the field, but mid-race his pace slowed, allowing the four riders behind him to get within reach of the win, providing a nail-biting race to the finish.
Brad Baker of Dodge Bros Racing and Sammy Halbert of Flat Track Live were in the mix with Smith, Mees and Robinson, completing the five-rider battle for the front that lasted the final nine laps of competition. Baker ended the night in fourth and Halbert took fifth, two-tenths of a second from the win.
“Everything went great for me all day," said Smith. "I really wanted to get away from the pack and win this thing by a long way. I had it going my way early on but my tire got hot and I started to fade back and eventually got pushed off the groove and found myself in a battle. Baker and the rest of the guys really gave me a good run and I knew it would be hard getting around those Harley's but luckily my Crosley Kawasaki was good on the straightaways and I was able to get by them one final time."
Zanotti Racing’s Jake Johnson trailed the lead pack by over eight seconds to finish sixth, followed by Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s Kenny Coolbeth Jr. in seventh.
Baker maintains his overall GNC Combined lead, though it’s been reduced to 15 points over second-place rider, Robinson. Smith jumped from seventh to third overall following his win while Johnson remains fourth. Lloyd Brothers Motorsports’ Henry Wiles, formerly in third, is now fifth following his ninth-place finish at the Sacramento Mile.

J&P Cycles Pro Singles
Crosley Radio’s Shayna Texter nabbed her first win of the current season in J&P Cycles Pro Singles at the Sacramento Mile, beating Stockton Honda’s Nate Wait in a final lap dual for the checkers. Texter crossed the line 0.016 seconds ahead of Wait, earning her second consecutive Sacramento Mile victory. Parkinson Brothers Racing’s Stephen Vanderkuur rounded out the podium.
Texter got off to a tough start, falling back to sixth-place after Lap 1 but she battled back through the ranks as competition proceeded, getting back to second-place by Lap 7. The following lap Texter got past Wait for the first time and the two continued a back-and-forth war to the finish. Vanderkuur was involved in the battle for the win as well, actually leading the most laps of any rider on the grid, but he fell back to third place on the penultimate lap and was unable to recover position before the checkers.
Waters Auto Body’s Ryan Wells finished fourth followed by Rod Lake’s Bronson Bauman in fifth. Kirkland Racing’s Wyatt Maguire took sixth with Fun Mart Cycle Center’s Gerit Callies trailing in seventh.
Maguire remains the overall Pro Singles points leader, eight points ahead of Wells, who moved past X-Trim’s Kyle Johnson into second. Texter made the biggest leap though, rising from 10th to fourth overall following her win in Sacramento. Vanderkuur rounds out the top-five, mathematically tied with Texter at 55 points but a position down because he’s yet to earn a win this year.
