Rogers Racing’s Jared Mees registered his 14th career GNC victory at the 2014 Lima Half-Mile. USC Kawasaki’s Brandon Robinson finished in second-place followed by Villa-Esparza Crosley Radio’s Bryan Smith in third.
"I got a great start and it feels great to get this win," said Mees. "I saw several guys up top on every turn but I decided to stick with my plan and stay low. I got a little better each time I went out and I felt I was finally perfect once the main event came around. I knew I wasn't going to get tired and that I just needed to get through it. It's just so great to have such a strong team behind me, I couldn't have accomplished this without all of their hard work."
Mees slotted into battle for second-place with Smith during the opening laps after South East H-D’s Sammy Halbert claimed the front. Halbert began to stretch a gap on the field which was nearly insurmountable half-way through the race, but then his engine blew and his night ended.
Smith was first to pass by Halbert for the lead, followed by Mees in second. Mees pushed to close-in on Smith and with 10 laps remaining made the move for the front. The Harley-Davidson rider yanked the throttle after that and left the field behind, crossing the line over two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Smith slipped back into a battle for the runner-up spot with Robinson, who turned on the jets late in the game. Robinson gained the upper-hand in the final laps and ended up gaining a one-tenth advantage on Smith at the checkers.
Zanotti Racing’s Kenny Coolbeth Jr. finished in fourth-place followed by Ramspur Winery’s Jake Johnson in fifth and Coolbeth’s teammate, Stevie Bonsey, in sixth. In addition to Halbert, Harley-Davidson’s Brad Baker also suffered a mechanical issue which took him out of the race in the early laps.
Coolbeth retains the GNC combined points lead followed by Johnson in second and Mees, who moves past Halbert for third. Robinson also slips ahead of Halbert into fourth-overall.

Parkinson Brothers Racing’s Kyle Johnson took his second consecutive AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles win in the 2014 Lima Half-Mile. TJ Burnett Farms’ Davis Fisher finished in second-place followed by Bob Weirbach Racing’s Robert Descenna in third.
Johnny’s Vintage Motorcycle’s Jarod Vanderkooi was quickest off the start, taking the lead into the first turn but a few bobbles in the corner sent him back in the ranks. Descenna took advantage of Vanderkooi’s struggle to take the lead followed closely by Johsnon in second. Johnson trailed Descenna for a brief period but then made his move to the front on Lap 5. From there Johnson was untouchable, building a gap of more than five seconds by the finish.
"It was a great race all around," said Johnson. "I got off to a great start and really got some great drives in there and was fortunately able to walk away with the win. We're on a roll right now and I hope we can keep it going to make up some ground and get up there close to the points lead."
Descenna faced heavy pressure late in the race from Fischer, who was climbing up the ranks from fourth. The Burnett Farms rider made his move to the runner-up spot during the final laps, stretching an almost two second gap on Descenna before the finish.
Sylvester Farms’ Brandon Wilhelm took fourth-place followed by Arai’s Dylan Morin in fifth and Rod Lake Racing’s Bronson Bauman in sixth.
Wilhelm and Fischer are now mathematically tied for the Pro Singles lead, with Wilhelm holding the advantage thanks to his Daytona II win. The points leader going into the Lima Half-Mile, KTM’s Ryan Wells, drops down to third ahead of Johnson in fourth and Morin in fifth.
