Rodgers Racing’s Jared Mees notched his second AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National race win at the Grays Harbor Half-Mile, beating Villa-Esparza Crosley Radio’s Bryan Smith by three-tenths at the line. Ramspur Winery’s Jake Johnson finished in third.
The lead pack bunched up off the start and positions changed hands throughout the top-five numerous times, with South East H-D’s Sammy Halbert leading the way through the opening turns. Johnson and Zanotti Racing’s Kenny Coolbeth Jr. slotted into the number one and two positions with Smith and Mees holding close just behind.
Halbert maintained the advantage through the initial stages of the race while Johnson and Coolbeth went back and forth in the fight for second. Smith put an end to the battle when he slipped up the ranks past both riders to assume the runner-up spot near the middle of the race. Soon after Halbert got a little wobbly on the bike and Smith closed in quickly, taking over the front with 15 laps remaining.
From there Smith pushed to stretch out his lead and positions continued to shuffle behind. Coolbeth dropped down the ranks while Mees wove his way into second. Johnson recovered from an early set-back to reclaim podium position near the final laps of the race. With five to go Mees found a line past Smith for the lead and the two started to break away from the field, Smith keeping close to Mees but never finding a way to reclaim the front before the checkers.
Johnson got some breathing room late in the contest, finishing over three seconds ahead of Halbert in fourth. Halbert, Coolbeth and Harley-Davidson’s Brad Baker were in heated competition to the final corners and Coolbeth came through on Baker just before the end to take fifth. Baker finished sixth ahead of Coolbeth’s teammate, Stevie Bonsey, in seventh followed by Weirbach Racing’s Robert Pearson in eighth.
Mees retains his points lead in the GNC Combined standings, with Smith trailing in second five points back. Johnson sits third followed by Coolbeth in fourth and Halbert in fifth.

Johnny’s Vintage Motorcycle’s Jarod Vanderkooi took his first AMA Pro Flat Track Pro Singles win of the year at Grays Harbor. TJ Burnett Farms’ Davis Fisher crossed the line in second followed by KTM’s Ryan Wells in third.
Series points leader Kyle Johnson of Parkinson Brothers Racing led the way off the start with Vanderkooi close at hand in second. There wasn’t any time for the battle to develop, however, as Thresher Communications’ Ryan Foster went down in Turns 1 and 2, forcing officials to red flag the race in the opening laps.
On the restart, Ride Motorsports’ Cole Fredrickson took the early lead followed by Vanderkooi, and during the initial rotations Vanderkooi found his way to the head of the pack. From there Vanderkooi held steady to the finish. Behind, Fisher was battling up the field, gaining second-place just after the halfway point. The fight for third raged until the final turns, with Wells rocketing up the ranks late in the game, taking the final podium step from Johnson just before the checkers. Fredrickson settled in fifth followed by K.C. Cycle’s Kolby Carlile in sixth and Motorcycle Superstore
’s Dominic Colindres in seventh.
Johnson holds on to the points lead thanks to his three previous race wins, but is now mathematically tied with Fisher. Wells sits in third, but is just a single point adrift of the leader.
